The past has a funny way of showing up… usually right when we least want it to.

Maybe that’s the true meaning behind Blackout Wednesday, Thanksgiving, or any hometown reunion...not the celebration, but the confrontation. Because nothing quite rattles us like accidentally locking eyes with an ex, an old situationship, or that one hometown hater who still thinks they know who we are.

But it makes you wonder:Why do we hand these people the same power they once had? Why do we straighten our hair, perfect our smiles, and people please the very ones who never saw our worth to begin with?

So if you’re dreading a run in this holiday season, consider this episode your sign. Maybe the past isn’t returning to intimidate us…maybe it’s returning to show us just how much we’ve actually grown.
