When you pray, are you constantly and consistently just asking and demanding good things to come in your life or are you praying for guidance and wisdom from the Lord? Through reflection, I realized that many of my prayers have been going to God asking for this and that in my life. Asking for protection, deliverance, for stability, for a husband, etc. But, how many of my words in prayer are going to God to say sorry to Him for the things I've done that were or are dishonoring Him? How many of my prayers were about going to God for guidance and wisdom about the things I struggle with? How many of my prayers were just a simple conversation with Him rather than going to Him only when I "need" Him?

Jesus needs to be your BEST FRIEND. Your Father. Your guidance counselor. Your teacher. Your everything!!! Many of us struggle with going to God FIRST before doing things in life.

We may struggle with just going to God when things go bad or things don't go the way we want to. But think about this... How much of our life can we really control? Can we control the outcome of tomorrow? Can we control how others feel, react, or do things in life? No. We can't control everything. So, why do we often try to control anyway? When we fully surrender our lives to Christ, life is so much better. Not easier, but better. He gives us peace and always answers our prayers. He answers "Yes," "No," or "Not yet." When we don't see or hear our prayers answered right away, we become impatient and get angry with God. But sometimes, He wants us to wait for the result as He prepares us for the journey ahead. He wants to prepare us and allow us to go through the tough stuff in order to appreciate what we have now and then in the future.

The next time you find yourself going to God to ask or demand things in your life, recognize it and change the direction of your conversation with Him. Be genuine about it. God knows our hearts, so when we aren't fully honest with Him about our wants, desires, and reasons for going to Him, He will force it out of us. Go to God in prayer for clarity, guidance and peace. Even for things out of our control.
