Eighty-one-year-old Donna Gerken and her seventy-seven-year-old husband, Ernie, face homelessness after being evicted from their rental home due to unaffordable rent and poor living conditions. Despite their childrens financial struggles, theyve been living at the MorningStar homeless shelter for six months. Their five children, eight grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren are unable to house them. The couples pets and Ernies oxygen equipment limit their shelter options. However, Donnas son, Ryan, is working to purchase a house for them, highlighting the need for community solutions to address rising homelessness among seniors.
