Garnier comenzó su carrera como DJ en la mítica discoteca Factory de Manchester a finales de los 80s. A principios de los años 90 empezó a trabajar en la producción y grabó varios discos, experimentando con una amplia variedad de estilos como : el Deep-House, Detroit Techno, Trance y Nu Jazz.
