A 1986 study titled Determinants of Portfolio Performance by Brinson, Hood and Beebower showed that asset allocation explained 93.6% of the variation in a portfolio’s return. This clearly shows the importance of following an asset allocation approach to investing rather than chasing return or flavour of the season.
