Ep 19 - Saving Babies' Lives: Heidi’s Mission with MAMA Academy
Description
TW: Baby loss
In this episode, I’m joined by Heidi, the Founder and CEO of MAMA Academy, a charity dedicated to making pregnancy safer and reducing stillbirths. Heidi shares her deeply personal story, which began with the heartbreaking loss of her first son, Aidan, in May 2009. Her journey through grief and discovery led her to learn that stillbirths are more common than many realise, with 6,500 babies dying each year in the UK alone. This knowledge propelled Heidi to take action, and she founded MAMA Academy to help more babies arrive safely.
We discuss the vital work MAMA Academy is doing, including their research, evidence-based resources for expectant parents and healthcare professionals, and the creation of Wellbeing Wallets - resources designed to empower parents to seek medical advice when necessary, helping reduce the risk of stillbirths. Heidi shares how receiving feedback from midwives and parents has shown that MAMA Academy is making a tangible difference in saving babies' lives.
This episode is for anyone interested in improving maternal health, understanding the importance of awareness during pregnancy, and learning about the work being done to reduce the stillbirth rate.
