Ep177: Reed announces plans to ease new home consents around train stations and changes to application call-in process
Description
In this edition, we’ll be discussing the housing secretary’s announcement of a series of further changes to the planning system, including:
- Changes to the ministerial application call-in process that would require English councils to tell the housing ministry when they intend to refuse planning applications for schemes of more than 150 homes.
- Impending changes to the National Planning Policy Framework that would mean planning applications for homes and other “suitable” development near “well-connected” train stations will receive a default “yes” from decision-makers, providing they “meet certain rules”.
- A consultation on stripping three statutory consultees of their role and other revisions to the way local authorities engage with statutory consultees.
We’ll also be discussing why a council has apologised after accidentally releasing personal details of 625 respondents to its local plan consultation.
