Ep8: How To Take Care Of Feral Cats in Your Neighborhood
Description
Cats have been roaming the world for a long time; it's not uncommon for us to come across feral community cats no matter where we live. Some cats are in desperate need of our assistance, while others appear to be fine with much less human intervention. But how do you tell which is which? And what can we do to contribute?
Join us for an informative interview on how to care for feral cats in the community and why it is critical to keep their population under control. Learn about practical tips and tried-and-true strategies such as trap-neuter-return (TNR) programmes, providing food and shelter, and fostering harmony between feral cats and the community. Learn more about the importance of population control and how you can make a difference in feline welfare. With us today is Stacy LeBaron, someone who has 20 years of animal welfare experience. She interviews national and international experts on cat overpopulation and welfare on her weekly Community Cats Podcast. 500 episodes. Stacy holds three-weekend conferences—the Online Cat Conference, the United Spay Alliance Conference, and the Online Kitten Conference—to promote virtual education in addition to the podcast. She hosts daylong sessions on Feline Leukaemia, Behaviour, Diversity, Lost and Found, and Fundraising. She held monthly virtual trapper training and certification workshops with Neighbourhood Cats in 2020 to teach community cat trapping best practices. The Community Cats Grants Programme helps grassroots organisations learn fundraising skills to raise funds for spay/neuter surgeries and match the funds raised by the programme. This programme helped over 200 groups. “Turn your passion for cats into action” is her goal. Stacy led MRFRS for 16 years before starting the podcast. Stacy, an expert in her field, is a member of the Shelter Medicine Committee at the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University, an adviser to the Massachusetts Animal Coalition (MAC), President of the Board for PAWSitive Pantry in Vermont and Massachusetts, Treasurer at the Vermont Humane Federation, Treasurer for the Merrimack River Feline Rescue Society, and Treasurer and strategic director at the United Spay Alliance.
