Description

This week on Five Minute Fridays we look at the cost of professional development and how it is a consequence of schools been seen as businesses. An excerpt is below as well as a link to a book I reference throughout the episode.

I turned in my last grad school assignment last week for the semester, which means I am leisurely reading a book entitled A Wolf at The Schoolhouse Door. It is about the marketization of public education or more simply put how policy is taking the public good of education and making it private. Reading this book made me think of several stats I catalogued throughout the semester. The first of which is that 50 largest districts across the United States spend 8 billion Dollars annually on professional development for teachers.
