Episode 143: Self-Differentiation: the road less traveled
Description
To choose the road less traveled takes emotional resilience. I liken self-differentiation to the road less traveled, one we have a hard time taking because we are tribal and communal by human nature.
It can feel uncomfortable to share thoughts, ideas, decisions, etc. that are DIFFERENT than the group. The risk of losing your feeling of fitting in or belonging can be too high.
We may tie our identity and/or the point we’re at in our journey (faith or otherwise) to those closest to us. When we see them at different points than us, it can feel uncomfortable. Perhaps it emphasizes that we are in different places or it might increase the “alone” factor, or worse we make it mean that we no longer belong.
Listen to this episode to learn more about this important part of human development, including our faith development.

Part of the Dialogue Journal, the Dialogue Podcast Network was founded by Eugene England, a Mormon writer, teacher and scholar. “My faith encourages my curiosity and awe,” Gene wrote in the very first issue of the journal. “It thrusts me out into relationship with all creation” and “encourages me to enter into dialogue.” My hope is that this podcast is an extension of his vision.
