The legacy of Lionel Messi, which in my opinion has now been cemented, was also a topic, as well as whether this win finally puts an end to the GOAT debate between himself and Cristiano Ronaldo. Whether the next generation of football stars have now been passed the torch, sparked conversation on whether Mbappe did this at this World Cup. We also discussed the Sky and L’equipe World Cup teams of the tournaments, with some baffling selections included, such as Harry Maguire. Finally we ended on the topic of why England might not be winning a World Cup anytime soon due to their lack of ruthlessness in the pursuit of victory. This allowed us to share our frustrations about Southgate remaining as England manager until after Euro 2024 as well as the general setup of the England football landscape.
