More than 80 percent of the world’s most food-insecure people are being hit by extreme weather and other stresses such as land degradation and pest infestation. In 2021, climate extremes were the predominant driver for acute hunger in 8 countries, affecting 23.5 million people. The World Food Programme, the world’s largest humanitarian organization dedicated to fighting hunger, is helping food insecure communities to prepare for, respond to, and recover from climate shocks and other stresses.
