Episode 16 (VO-EN) : Is it time to leave yet ?
Description
In this week's episode, I am excited to get to chat with Charlotte.
Charlotte Richards is a historian and data analyst living in rural France, but her latest project is deeply connected to the United States. As political tensions rise and violence spreads, many Americans, especially LGBTQIA+ people, immigrants, women, and people of color, are facing a terrifying question: is it time to leave home to stay safe?
Charlotte founded Help Me Leave, a volunteer-driven platform designed to give at-risk Americans clear, practical tools to plan their relocation abroad. Through resources, visa guides, and a support network of people who’ve been through this journey themselves, the site aims to make leaving safer and more possible.
In this conversation, Charlotte talks about why she built Help Me Leave, the messages she’s receiving through her other project, Letters from America, and what it means to preserve stories and histories during times of crisis. Together, we explore the emotional, political, and historical stakes of deciding whether to stay and fight — or to leave and start anew.
