In this episode, Tendai Angel Rokkones deeply explores the yogi energetic and mechanics of the five metaphorical human body layers called koshas. The five koshas include Annamaya, Pranamaya, Manomaya, Vijanamaya and Anandamaya kosha, they are meant to bring awareness of who we are at the core. She further expands on the eight limbs system of yoga which serve as guidelines on how to live a meaningful and purposeful life. These limb systems give direction on utilizing movement within self and acknowledging the spiritual aspects of our nature. They embrace non-violence, truth, non-stealing, sexual energy, non-attachment, self-discipline, contemplation of true self and can be used to create our reality. Tendai takes us on a powerful journey of using breath control to align and ground thyself. She highlights on the concept of creating from within and being a magnet and mirror of what is inside us. Moreover, she explains the role of feminism and the power within womanhood. She also sheds light on how sexual energy can be transformed to creativity. She reminds us to be vast in using personal power to understand who we are as manifestations of those who came before us. This will influence our African mentality and knowledge in forging the future.
ABOUT TENDAI ANGELA ROKKONES Tendai is a Zimbabwean born 250hr certified yoga teacher living in Trondheim, Norway; her journey into yoga began in 2003 when her mother slipped discs in her lower spine resulting in partial paralysis and her neurologist suggested yoga therapy as a form of rehabilitation. Tendai accompanied her mother to her sessions and quickly became fascinated by the holistic healing process of yoga that she viewed first hand. Since then, throughout Tendai's travels in Australia, Italy, Norway, Caribbean and Bali she has stayed consistent in her education of yogic practices as a philosophy for sustainable development and innovative transformation for ones Self and communities. This culminated to her work in Zimbabwe where she led workshops, classes, discussions' and programs for diplomatic agencies, children's homes, a film for Fashion Revolution, Tamba Africa Circus, TEDXHarare, women's groups and her community. Tendai believes that yoga is embodied on and off the mat as a lifestyle that is accessible to any one and by using the tools yoga prescribes one can lead a fulfilled life. Drawing from the teachings of the sutras by Patanjali, Yogananda, BKS Iyengar, David Frawley and the Bhagavad Gita Tendai weaves in ancient African wisdom, self inquiry, subtle body anatomy and modern scientific research into her vinyasa, yin and yoga nidra classes that have been described by students as 'deeply inspiring, nourishing and emotional', 'returning home to your self with clarity' and 'not simply a class but an experience that explores the whole; body, mind and soul'.
