Garrett went second on the relay, jumping off Michael Phelps, splitting a blistering 47.02 and watching Jason Lezak chase down Alain Bernard as the Americans touched first for gold. The Americans had upset the French, and Michael Phelps' quest for 8 gold medals was still alive.
