As an adult, LALA land takes practice, like a runner training for a marathon.


 


So how do you practice?


 


It is like a couch to marathon program.


Step 1. Get off the couch


Step 2. Learn to Notice what is going on around you. Stop looking at your phone and look at people. Look at their faces, try to figure out what they are thinking, how they are feeling or what they do for a living.


Step 3. Practice assessing the situation. No, you don't have to be Jason Bourne and notice everything everywhere you go, but practice assessing what would happen if you did take the next step. Would you harm someone, would someone harm you, would you inconvenience someone?


Step 4: Listen: You have to be present when you listen. You have to listen with more than just your ears. You have to listen with your eyes too.


Step 5: Act.
