Description
Valeria Gaytan is a college student from Omaha, Nebraska. As a young person, Valeria explains why she felt compelled to step up and shine a light on many issues that are affecting her communities. She has participated in events supporting the Black Lives Matter movement, as well as taking on planning roles for local protests regarding human rights violations at the U.S. border and the Abolish ICE movement.
During our conversation, we touch on a variety of issues such as: climate, systemic racism, US History, and criminal justice reform. As she unpacks her perspective, Valeria reveals the importance of having an education that incorporates various points of view, as she found herself having her eyes opened to so many different historical injustices that she previously had not known existed.
