Description

Part 3 of some of the best albums from 2017-2023. This one truly illustrates the versatility of this musical genre we call 'jazz'.

It turns out that most of the ones I play are from last year--2023. And wow! They are all so listenable and so interesting. You'll hear:

  1. a track from the Charles Lloyd album that was the #1 selection on this year's Critic's Poll from Downbeat Magazine.

  2. The soulful singing and spectacular jazz backing from Billy Valentine and The Universal Truth

  3. Edmar Casteneda World Ensemble.

  4. Susan Alcorn and an album called Canto---which is like nothing you've ever heard.

I also play

  1. Jussi Reijonen and his Kolme Toista (Three Seconds) album from 2022

  2. Sons of Kemet, featuring Shabaka Hutchings, from 2021.

  3. Ambrose Akinmusire from On The Tender Spot of Every Calloused Moment (2020)

  4. Terri Lyne Carrington with Social Science and Kokayi, from the Waiting Game album of 2019

  5. Dominique Fils-Aime, from 2019, and a Juno Award winning album from 2019. A great title for the selection: "Big Man Do Cry".

  6. Diana Krall from 2018, and her Turn Up THe Quiet album. Love her piano playing on "No Moon at All".
