Episode 32 - Alix - transformative freebirth of her second baby in the car on the way to hospital following a traumatic first birth where she experienced the cascade of interventions
Description
Welcome back to another episode of The Mama Village Podcast!
In today's episode, I have the privilege of sitting down with Alix, who courageously shares her two profound birth stories.
In her first birth, under the care of Maternity Group Practice (MGP), Alix encountered unexpected challenges—a cervical lip and a cascade of interventions that included coached pushing and an epidural. A series of interventions followed, culminating in a delivery involving forceps and an episiotomy, all without her explicit consent. The birth left Alix with unresolved feelings that surfaced later, prompting deep reflection during her second pregnancy.
Fast forward to her second pregnancy, Alix opted once again for MGP and enlisted the support of a doula to enhance her birthing experience. However, when her labour progressed rapidly, she ended up giving birth in the car on the way to the hospital. With no medical intervention, Alix welcomed her daughter in to the world unassisted, a moment of raw connection that reshaped her understanding of childbirth.
Join us as Alix candidly shares how these contrasting birth experiences shaped her perspective on childbirth, motherhood, and the profound journey of healing and empowerment that followed.
