Merv Ormand is an 8th Degree Black Belt in American Kenpo with over 40 years of martial arts experience. A dedicated practitioner, teacher, and leader in the field, Merv has trained with some of the most distinguished figures in American Kenpo and is renowned for his mastery of the art, his teaching skills, and his commitment to spreading the principles of Kenpo around the world.
Merv’s journey in martial arts began at an early age when he was introduced to traditional Kenpo Karate. His path included training with notable grandmasters and pioneers of the art, which shaped him into one of the most authoritative figures in the discipline today. Merv has trained directly with many of the greats of American Kenpo, including Senior Grandmaster Edmund Parker, the founder of American Kenpo, as well as other leading figures in the Kenpo community. This in-depth training helped him refine his techniques, improve his self-defense skills, and gain a profound understanding of the strategic and philosophical aspects of Kenpo. He has also had the privilege of attending and conducting seminars, workshops, and special training sessions worldwide, sharing his knowledge with students of all levels. His approach combines tradition with innovation, allowing students to grow within the structured framework of American Kenpo while developing practical, real-world self-defense skills.
As a martial artist, Merv has not only focused on his personal development but has also been committed to teaching and mentoring others. His deep understanding of Kenpo, combined with a methodical approach to instruction, has enabled him to produce top-quality students and future black belts. Merv believes that martial arts training goes beyond physical conditioning and self-defense—it also builds character, instills discipline, and fosters personal growth.
