Episode #47: How you can use your wisdom to become a modern elder
Description
With Chip Conley
This week’s guest – Chip Conley – takes me back full circle to my time at the University of Pennsylvania where I studied applied psychology in graduate school. I remember reading Chip’s book, Emotional Equations, and thinking that everything I thought I knew about well-being and happiness needed to be re-calibrated. What I really love about Chip is that his books are not academic tombs with no relevance. They are grounded in his experience as a hotelier entrepreneur for 26 years and more recently, as a strategic advisor to the founders of Airbnb.
Chip has a brand-new book, Wisdom at Work – launching in Sept. It’s a great read on how you can leverage wisdom that comes from experience to stay relevant at work or to pivot to something new and different. This was such a fun conversation, full of insights and concrete habits we can adopt … you don’t want to miss it!

In our conversation Chip and I will be discussing:
- The most important lesson he learned from starting a boutique hotel in a run-down inner-city motel … at just 26 years old.
- How AirBnB shaped his views on experience and wisdom in the workplace
- What you can do now to leverage your own wisdom and experience at work
- The most effective habits and practices you can cultivate to achieve success
- Book recommendations to help us connect with our meaning and improve our happiness
- And so much more!
