By and large they’re right about grunge eclipsing heavy metal in ‘91. However that year was also the break out year for Metallica with their self titled album,popularly referred to as the “black” album. Many of their hardcore fans called them sell outs because the songs were more formulaic and radio friendly than their previous work. To this day Metallica reign supreme in the “metal” genre.
