Description

Following a 12-game stretch against the Twins, Mets, Marlins and Padres that saw the Pirates go 8-4 to finish May at 14-14, the team journeyed up the left coast to San Francisco to face the always-competitive Giants for a three-game set.  Then, it’s back across the country to Atlanta, then north to PNC Park’s friendly confines for six against the Brewers and Phillies.

As the calendar flipped from May to June, the Pirates started to settle into the season.  Four-fifths of the rotation has stabilized, as Charlie Morton came back strong and Jeff Locke struggled.  Who’s the next option, should Locke continue to falter: Vance Worley? Casey Sadler? Clayton Richard? Someone else?

The offense is humming, as Francisco Cervelli and Jung Ho Gang made Neal Huntington’s offseason.  What’s the biggest trouble spot remaining:  the end of the bench?  Can Corey Hart justify his existence as the team’s 25th man, or should Steve Lombardozzi or Andrew Lambo take his job?

There’s time for a bit of draft talk and a Josh Bell mention as your hosts round out the episode just as Gerrit Cole and Ryan Vogelsong begin to duel at AT&T Park.
