Description

Welcome to Episode 61 of Tapestry. Today my friend Mark Jovanovich (Mark J) joined me today to change up my subject matter a bit - he is a guitarist who accompanies Pittsburgh-local Greek folk musicians, as well as performs in his own Balkan folk band, Četiri Jedan Dva. We discuss his background in music performance, his brief stint in Nashville playing with country musicians, how his Serbian heritage has informed his musical style, music theory and Western tonality, Eastern European culture, songs, Tamburitzan dances, and more.

Intro and outro music: ‘Temple of Passion,’ and ‘Macedonian Folk Guitar,’ performed by Mark J.

Other music included in the episode: ‘Psychopomp,’ performed by Thank You Scientist; ‘Μινορε,’ performed by Sotiri Tsourekis, Dimitri Spanos, and George Papazekos
