Description

So much of the Christian life rises and falls on what we allow to live in our mind. In this conversation, Kimberly Faith and John McLarty discuss the daily battle between the mind of the flesh and the mind of Christ. Drawing from Galatians 5, Romans 12, 2 Corinthians 10, Deuteronomy 6, and even the rebuilding of Jerusalem’s walls in Nehemiah, they show that every believer actually has two “inputs” running at once — the flesh and the Spirit — and our will is the place that chooses which one to feed. They walk through real-life examples of taking a thought captive (even something as simple as seeing someone walk by and immediately praying for him), recognizing when peace drops, and replacing anxious, offended, or judgmental thoughts with prayer and Scripture. They also talk about how doom-scrolling, constant entertainment, or nursing offense slowly lowers our “peace gauge,” and why input without output (Bible study that never becomes serving, loving, or encouraging) keeps us from experiencing the joy of God’s presence. Using Nehemiah’s wall as a picture, they encourage listeners to identify weak spots, build a strategy, stay in church community, and approach life like warriors who know the enemy will test the same places again and again. At the center of it all is this truth: peace is not the absence of trouble; it’s Christ’s mind ruling instead of our carnal mind.
