Episode 7: Talking Mental Health and Burnout with Ashley Fontaine
Description
After working in the nonprofit sector for over 14 years and serving as Executive Director of her local chapter of NAMI, the National Alliance for Mental Illness, Ashley faced nonprofit burnout. Ashley felt the dread of not wanting to go into work and experienced brain fog that led her to not working as effectively as she had in the past. There were many days where she found herself apologizing for not being able to function at full capacity.
In this episode, Ashley Fontain, founder of Flux AF consulting talks about the impact burnout has on the frontal lobe of our brain and how that can diminish our cognitive abilities. We discuss the differences between depression, anxiety, and burnout as well as some of the symptoms of burnout. Finally, Ashley shares her views on why saying no is a leadership responsibility and discusses tips on how leaders can have healthy boundaries.
Ashley’s book Unstuck: A Practical Guide to Radical Change for Nonprofit Leaders will be released in May 2022. Click here to learn more about Ashley and her book.
