Description

It’s a scrappy, anarchic alternative to Eurovision where singers from Arctic communities compete for the prize while also developing cross-cultural solidarity. This is the third edition of the contest, which in 2025 is being held in Iqaluit, the capital city of Nunavut.

We talked about how the contest emerged, the challenges faced by Arctic communities and the challenges of holding a song contest in one of the most isolated places on Earth. We also discussed the politics inherent in contests such as Eurovision and Pan-Arcticvision, and how this feels very different in a contest where all the participants come from marginalised communities far from the power centres.

Ahead of the third running of the Contest, ESC Insight’s Phil Doré chats to Amund Sjølie Sveen, artistic director of Pan-Arcticvision, about the challenges and the rewards of this song contest.

Pan-Arcticvision will be live-streamed from PanArcticvision.Org on Saturday 29th November at 20:00 Greenwich Mean Time, 21:00 Central European Time.
