Description

This week on Perspectives Into Practice, I’m joined by my friend Emily, a minister, social worker, mom, and woman of deep, hard-won faith. Emily opens up about the grief of an unexpected miscarriage that unraveled her understanding of God, ministry, and herself. It’s a conversation about loss, doubt, and the deep work of rebuilding an authentic relationship with God.

We talk about how easy it is to go through the motions in faith, especially when you’re in ministry, and what it really means to choose honesty with God over performative faith. Emily shares how, after hitting rock bottom, she cried out to God in her car on New Year’s Eve and said, “If everything I’ve said about You is true, You’re going to have to show me.”

From that moment on, God began showing up in her everyday life in small but undeniable ways, what she now calls “everyday epiphanies.” Through Scripture, therapy, and vulnerability, Emily found her way back to a faith that’s real, messy, and rooted in relationship.

Scriptures Mentioned:

  • Psalm 40:2 — "He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire..."

  • John 1:14 — The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.

  • Hebrews 13:8 — Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

If you’ve ever felt distant from God while doing all the “right” things, this episode is for you.

Emily’s final encouragement? “Be brave enough to be honest with God and with others. That honesty can be life-changing.”
