What role does consciousness plays within evolution? Can it be explained by scientific theory, christian teaching and theosophy; Or is the relationship between consciousness, energy and matter, fundamental to evolutionary change?

How might we bring together different strands of thinking (e.g.  scientific theory, religious teaching and theosophy) to improve our understanding of the relationship between energy, life, matter and consciousness within the context of evolution.
