Fear is a difficult emotion, so much so many go into denial of fear depriving it of its voice. It is said that in crisis there is opportunity. The denial of fear protects us from feeling threat, that is its function. But it also doesn't allow us to recognize crisis and so we also miss the opportunity it gives. Fear when it is overwhelming can also lead to anxiety or panic, when the fear is all-pervasive we are unable to recognize the source of the fear to work with it, we just want to run away. Finding center is important because it allows you to acknowledge fear without becoming overwhelmed. Center is the place where we hear what fear has to say and are able to digest this message in making choices that help us find the opportunity in the crisis.
