My guest for this episode is Dr. Florian Steger M.D., author of the acclaimed book Asklepios: Medezin und Kult (2016), recently released in Dutch as Asclepius: Geneeskunde en Cultus (Amsterdam University Press, 2024).

Florian offers a knowledgeable overview of the historical school of Asclepius, a community of men and women who offer medicine for the body as well as for the soul. Rather than dismissing them as quacks or superstitious doctors, Florian shows how science, psychology, philosophy, and spirituality could go hand in hand.

Being a practicing doctor himself, Florian also explores what the modern-day doctor could learn from their Roman colleagues in how they approach their patients and their craft.
