Description
They have the need...the need for speed. If you've seen "Top Gun: Maverick," just take the planes and substitute formula one race cars, and -'presto'- you've got "F1 The Movie." Filmmaker Joseph Kosinski, who made “Top Gun: Maverick,” utilizes the same plot formula and fast-cut editing techniques to create another lively action thriller. Brad Pitt plays an aging has-been driver who is recruited by Javier Bardem to turbocharge his struggling race team and motivate his hotshot rookie, played by Damson Idris. The story is pretty cliched, but the race footage is often riveting with Pitt and Idris doing much of the driving with cameras attached to their helmets. The film was co-produced by famed British Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton, and nearly two dozen formula one drivers and team members appear as themselves. So, while the off-track story is boilerplate, the racing aspects are probably pretty accurate. "F1 the Movie" is zippy, adrenaline-fueled summer movie escapism.
Emmy-winning "Law & Order: SVU" star Mariska Hargitay makes her directing debut with the HBO Max documentary, "My Mom Jayne." Hargitay's mother, screen legend Jayne Mansfield, died when Hargitay was just three years old. Using a ton of archive footage, personal memorabilia and family talking heads, Hargitay explores unanswered questions about her mother's complicated and tragic life. Much to her surprise, she winds up on a sometimes-painful journey of self-discovery, learning as much about herself as she does about her famous mother. “My Mom Jayne” is a well-made, involving and often touching personal profile.
