From Transparency to Fairness: The Agri-Food Chain Observatory and Organics
Description
Today we’re diving into a topic that’s been at the heart of many discussions around Europe—farmers’ income and their position in the food supply chain.
Over the past year, we've witnessed widespread protests from farmers across Europe. These demonstrations weren't just about rising costs or bureaucratic burdens—they were a loud and clear signal about something deeper: the economic vulnerability of farmers and the need for structural reforms.
In response to these concerns, the European Commission began taking steps to improve farmers’ income, support fairer pricing across the value chain, and enhance transparency. It’s within this evolving political backdrop that the Agri-Food Chain Observatory was launched.
Francesca Bellino, policy officer at FiBL Europe interviews Jennifer Hirsch, research associate at FiBL Germany, who takes part in the Observatory’s work. In this episode we tackle current work, obstacles and the role of the organic sector in the Observatory.
