It's a rescue mission. There's been some sort of natural gas explosion at the Sonderdatch Mine and our squad of Marines need to provide aid and assistance to the rescue efforts. 

But no one knows what Weyland Yutani were doing in the lowest level of the mine, or why there were 8 other Marines down there too...
