Yormark acknowledged he wasn't "necessarily pleased" that BYU—which suffered a second loss in the Big 12 Championship Game to Texas Tech—finished just outside the 12-team field. However, his public statements focused on accepting the outcome of the formalized process. He asserted that the selection process will never be "perfect," and his job is to work with the management committee to improve the process, not attack the result. This stance signals a commissioner focused on being a cooperative partner in the sport's new governance structure.

Criticizing Notre Dame's Reaction

A major factor in Yormark's statement was his pointed criticism of Notre Dame Athletic Director Pete Bevacqua's "egregious" reaction to the Fighting Irish's exclusion. Yormark rebuked Bevacqua for "going after" the ACC and its commissioner, Jim Phillips. Yormark argued that the CFP committee chair had been clear that head-to-head results would be a factor as teams grew closer in the rankings, implying that both Notre Dame and BYU should have understood and accepted the committee's final logic. By supporting the committee's decision and condemning Notre Dame's public outrage, Yormark positioned himself as a measured and responsible leader in contrast to his peer.
