Gaspee point


Several miles below Providence in Warwick is Gaspee point where the British schooner Gaspee ran aground in 1772 and the fire deliberately set by the American revolutionaries caused explosion which scattered debris and artifacts all over the beach, again it is located about seven miles south of Providence on the west side of Narragansett Bay the beach and this area has been turning up small artifacts and treasures from the wreck of the British schooner Gaspee that ran the ground in 1772 it was then attacked and overcome by Patriots and then it was also set on fire and that was believed by many the beginning of the revolution.


-and here in Cranston, RI Still Cove is where the captain of Gaspee was dragged on the shore
