They created a unique story and gameplay elements that made Gears a must play game. Memorable characters, guns, and themes helped Gears stand out during a time when we saw the rise of any franchises, especially in the shooter genre. This game kicked off a great franchise that became a staple for Xbox for many years. If modern day developers need a source of inspiration for making a game that can turn into a successful franchise, they just need to look at Gears of War.
