Show Notes:

We kick off our official coverage of the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival, celebrating its 50th anniversary. We’re talking TIFF50 for the whole evening with reviews and interviews focused on this year’s selections.

We play our interview with actor Tattiawna Jones! Tattiawna is one of the stars of Dinner with Friends, making its premiere at TIFF50. She talks with us about the film and more! Tattiawna Jones is a Canadian-born artist whose work in film, television and stage spans over 15 years. She has had the distinct pleasure of bringing many roles to life, from dramatic to comedic to character. Tattiawna received a Screen Actors Guild Award nomination for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble for her work on Hulu’s hit television series The Handmaid’s Tale, in the role of Lillie Fuller opposite Elisabeth Moss. Other notable roles include: HBO Max’s post-apocalyptic Station Eleven as Lara; Emily in AMC’S Orphan Black: Echoes; Ava in Fox’s Lost in Space opposite Molly Parker; Violet in Tully (written by Diablo Cody) with Charlize Theron; and Amelie de Grace on Bravo/CTV’s hit cop drama 19-2. Most recently, Tattiawna can be seen in the role of Arada in Apple TV+’s sci-fi comedic thriller Murderbot alongside Alexander Skarsgård.

Our review of TIFF’s Little Lorraine starring Stephen Amell, Stephen McHattie and Auden Thornton. Little Lorraine, a North Atlantic seaside town with a population of 60, becomes embroiled in an international cocaine smuggling operation under the noses of multiple governments, distributed in coffins through a network of funeral homes.

We also play our interview with director Hannah Cheesman! Hannah’s latest short film, Marriaginalia, in playing as part of the Strange Cuts Programme at TIFF50. She talked with us about the short, the strangeness of cohabitation, and more! Hannah Cheesman is an actress, writer and director based in LA and Toronto. A TIFF Emerging Canadian Filmmaker, Lulu Wang, Diversity Hire and Lithium Films are set to produce her auteur feature debut, Succor, based on her short. Hannah recently sold her 30-minute dark comedy to Apple TV+ and just wrapped as writer/co-producer on season 3 of Hulu/SyFy hourlong SurrealEstate. She has written on Workin’ Moms, Find Me in Paris and was in the writers’ room of Orphan Black. In 2024, Hannah was nominated for a Directors Guild of Canada award for her work directing 7 of 10 episodes of CBC/ITV suspense half-hour Something Undone. Recent acting credits include Hey, Viktor! and a starring role in the forthcoming queer feature film I Come Home.

It was a great show!
