Description

The grand jury indictment against Ghislaine Maxwell (United States v. Maxwell, 20 Cr. 330) charged her with multiple federal crimes connected to Jeffrey Epstein’s sex trafficking operation. Prosecutors alleged that from 1994 to 1997, Maxwell groomed, enticed, and recruited underage girls—some as young as 14—for Epstein, knowing they would be sexually abused. The indictment included counts of conspiracy to entice minors, conspiracy to transport minors, transportation of minors for criminal sexual activity, and substantive enticement of a minor.

Beyond the trafficking charges, the indictment also included two perjury counts, based on Maxwell’s false statements during a 2016 sworn deposition related to civil litigation. Authorities emphasized that she was not a bystander but an active enabler who helped Epstein carry out and conceal his abuse. The filing painted Maxwell as central to Epstein’s criminal network, handling both the grooming of victims and the logistics of his operations across locations including New York and Florida.
