You had to go all the way back to the first half against Charleston to find Phoenix Rising’s last league goal, an effort by Hope Avayevu. Since then, the team was struggling to even put shots on target, and after the first half at the Oakland Coliseum, it looked like Rising could be set for another game just like that.

But up stepped Ihsan Sacko and Charlie Dennis with impressive long-range strikes, and a backs-to-the-wall defensive effort helped Pa-Modou Kah’s side pick up three points against Oakland Roots.

Next up is El Paso Locomotive, in the final group match of the Jägermeister Cup. Can Rising stake a claim for a spot in the knockout rounds, or is it too late?
