Description

The federal government is set to announce over twelve billion dollars in new spending, including two point one billion for superannuation benefits for Defence Force personnel, one point three billion for health and other entitlements for veterans, and six point three billion for natural disaster relief. Additionally, three billion dollars will be allocated to support seniors receiving the age pension. These new spending commitments come just days after the government announced it would not extend its three-hundred-dollar-a-year household energy rebates beyond two thousand twenty-five. The Treasurer, Jim Chalmers, stated that the biggest challenge in this mid-year update has been accommodating these unavoidable pressures and payments without significantly worsening the budgets overall financial health.
