00:00:00
All right, everybody, first up here at the WPS National Sales Meeting here, we've got all the riders here, we've got a bunch of things going on here, all the reps from here, and of course the nicest guy here,
00:00:10
Andrew Short, what's going on, Shorty, how are you?
00:00:12
I don't know if I'm the nicest guy, but I've been in a lot of these sales meetings, it's cool to be here, check out all the products, some stuff that's coming down the line, and yeah, it's been a good time to be here,
00:00:22
so I'm stoked to see you as well.
00:00:24
Yeah, it's great, you're self-tracking our Justin Breitner here, I mean, you predated those guys, but fly family forever for you guys, for you three.
00:00:34
Yeah, I mean, I've been with fly since 2002 or three, something like that.
00:00:38
There's been some big changes, and it's cool to still be a part of it, you know, you always have to adapt and keep moving, it's cool to see what these guys are doing, they're pushing.
00:00:46
I think there's some good changes coming to the gear, and just the direction that this company is going, so obviously I've been part of fly for a long time, and also WPS,
00:00:56
you know, this company is more than just fly, I think, most of the power sports people understand this, so they have a, they're associated with a lot of cool brands, a lot of cool house brands,
00:01:07
and a lot of good people, and I love everything dirt bikes and so do these people, so it's cool to be a part of it.
00:01:12
Yeah, you do, hey, joining us now, he is a World Supercross champion, he won Daytona, Shorty, V Justin, what's up, JB, what's up guys, how are we doing?
00:01:22
Good, we're good, thanks for coming here, I appreciate it, got a bunch of, guys that race now, guys that used to race, good times.
00:01:29
Yeah, it's cool, actually, I was just talking to some dealers out of Wisconsin, and like, we used to race at the same track.
00:01:35
No, it's one of the guys, you know, that goes like, you just meet so many people that are so, you know, so do you still always say like-minded people, and I love using that word because it's so true, like you're just around a bunch of like-minded people that all love the same thing and share the same passion,
00:01:48
it's cool.
00:01:49
Yeah, we need to get an Ivan Tedesco, Andrew Short, amateur racing podcast going, stories, stories from New Mexico, Colorado, that's what we need to do, talking about racing each other.
00:02:00
Yeah, I'm in that life now, man, amateurs about across, I live it pretty much every weekend.
00:02:04
Did your kid just win something?
00:02:06
Oh, the Seaglass, bro, no, I just saw the number one, that's awesome.
00:02:09
Yeah, I know, we went to the Guthrie Arena Cross, and I love that race when I was a kid, you know, a lot of the New Mexico people like you said, and this goes all the Johnson's, but this race, it was, it was really cool, you know, it was the amateur national championship or whatever,
00:02:22
it's the big one that they do.
00:02:23
You're going to Reno or something.
00:02:24
I'm going to Reno, yeah, yeah, yeah, but this track was beefy, and they have a really good dirt there in Guthrie.
00:02:29
A lot of cool kids from all over the country, and they didn't tame the track down very much.
00:02:33
I think the Canadian dudes prepped the track.
00:02:35
Oh, yeah, Thompson's, Thompson's.
00:02:37
Yeah, they're running the series now, yeah.
00:02:38
Yeah, I'm a big V-Mac guy, I've earned him a kiddie, he's from Texas, but these guys, they did a great job with the track, and it was a cool race.
00:02:45
So I'm all in the amateur motto, because my kid loves it.
00:02:48
I try not to push him.
00:02:50
I want to have a relationship with him.
00:02:53
He's like all in.
00:02:54
And when you're that age, you don't think dad knows anything anyway, so it doesn't really matter.
00:02:58
So I just, I'm along for the ride.
00:03:00
I just found out that your kid has like a monthly spot on the pony pod, or he calls in with his legs on the race.
00:03:06
Yeah, I guess, yeah, he's coming in hot.
00:03:09
He's got some hot takes.
00:03:11
Talking about arena cross, Jamie, I mean, I would say the second best, okay, the second best dirt.
00:03:19
It's not quite as big as Guthrie, but it's a lot bigger than most arena crosses.
00:03:23
Yeah, I only sweat two arena crosses, where you know, two main events are Friday and Saturday, one was in Sacramento, one was in Reno.
00:03:30
So if there's any like memorials for me there, just take a picture.
00:03:34
If Vince pulls out, I'm pulling.
00:03:37
I want to go see Vince and the arena cross.
00:03:39
So I mean, I'm in for that.
00:03:40
Let's go experience last week.
00:03:42
Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly right.
00:03:44
Shorty, you went to the car.
00:03:45
You were just in the trail car.
00:03:48
Whatever that is, I was at different.
00:03:51
Like we've heard we've talked to you a bunch about the rally bike.
00:03:56
This is just safer, just easier.
00:04:00
Yeah, just less stressful.
00:04:01
Yeah, Dakar is the best race ever.
00:04:03
And like no Americans will ever get it.
00:04:05
Like both of you just shaking your head, but I've done it five times on the bike.
00:04:09
This is the second time I've done it in a quote unquote car, a side trail car.
00:04:12
Yeah, trail car.
00:04:13
You would lose your mind if you knew how much it costs to go race this race trail car.
00:04:18
But yeah, it was amazing.
00:04:22
A lot longer days in the car than the bikes.
00:04:24
You break down.
00:04:25
Why is that?
00:04:25
Yeah, you just don't go as fast.
00:04:27
Okay.
00:04:27
You have issues and flat tire.
00:04:28
Okay.
00:04:29
It's all these things.
00:04:30
But it's really cool.
00:04:31
I also love it to see my bike friends.
00:04:33
Yeah, most of them didn't make it through.
00:04:35
They had some big crashes.
00:04:36
And also I helped the KTM team with rally and to see those guys in the bike.
00:04:41
And I understand more like what they're going through because they say it's going to be rocky.
00:04:46
I actually see the rocks.
00:04:48
You know what I'm there?
00:04:49
So I go, yeah, I get it.
00:04:50
And it's gnarly.
00:04:51
It's the craziest race in the world.
00:04:53
It's so long.
00:04:54
It's a great life experience.
00:04:55
And it's unexplainable.
00:04:58
But what's the weirdest animal you saw?
00:04:59
I didn't see much.
00:05:02
Did some crazy rocks.
00:05:03
I'll tell you lots of camels.
00:05:05
You know, all this stuff.
00:05:06
It's just weird.
00:05:07
It was in Saudi.
00:05:08
You go all over Saudi.
00:05:09
You're there for three weeks.
00:05:10
The race is too a little over two weeks long.
00:05:12
Yeah, it's a crazy race.
00:05:14
How about me and shorty were teammates in 16, 15, 16, a few years.
00:05:19
Your last years.
00:05:19
Was it your last year in super cost?
00:05:22
Yeah.
00:05:23
Yeah.
00:05:23
Yeah.
00:05:23
So we would do track walk.
00:05:25
And then you know, we're getting dressed from practice.
00:05:27
Dude, that triples huge, huh?
00:05:30
And then like two years later, I'm a glorious deck on the most dangerous race of the planet.
00:05:35
He's saying a 65 foot triple huge that he's done since he was like four.
00:05:40
And also, hey, we're getting off of practice.
00:05:41
Can I?
00:05:42
Can we not get stressed about this shorty?
00:05:44
You know, we had so much fun.
00:05:46
Like the conversations we would have out there.
00:05:48
I wish like they could go public because two of probably the most clean cut guys, the things that we were like discussing and talking about.
00:05:56
And like the funny thing was like, I think he's still the same, but we both have never done drugs.
00:06:03
Probably never will.
00:06:04
Yeah.
00:06:04
And we're like, if you did like, what would you try?
00:06:07
I do.
00:06:09
I never done.
00:06:10
This is like, you know, we just like go past.
00:06:13
Yeah.
00:06:14
So that's, that's funny because I've said the same thing with the key first of Pookie and everything.
00:06:18
I've never touched weed.
00:06:19
I never spoke to a cigarette in my life.
00:06:20
Yeah.
00:06:21
But I just do go.
00:06:22
But I don't know.
00:06:23
I don't know.
00:06:23
That would really work out.
00:06:24
It's like just drinking a bunch of coffee.
00:06:26
I don't know.
00:06:26
I don't know.
00:06:27
Yeah.
00:06:27
Let's face it.
00:06:28
We're never.
00:06:28
Never going to try what's fun to talk about.
00:06:31
Yeah.
00:06:31
It's funny.
00:06:31
And for you, JB, Ray, stay live.
00:06:33
Obviously, he did something last year.
00:06:35
But now you're like the host.
00:06:36
You're carrying the thing.
00:06:37
You got AC with you.
00:06:38
Good job.
00:06:39
So far.
00:06:39
I mean, I thought the San Diego one was the best one.
00:06:41
Oh, really?
00:06:42
Yeah.
00:06:42
I did.
00:06:43
Interesting.
00:06:43
Yeah.
00:06:43
But I, but yeah.
00:06:44
How's that been going?
00:06:45
It's a ton of fun.
00:06:47
It's really, really challenging, which actually enjoy because, you know, at this stage, it's like all about just, yeah, new challenges.
00:06:53
And of course, last year was a challenge with just being the analyst, but now being the kind of host slash analyst.
00:07:00
There's a ton more work, but I am enjoying it.
00:07:02
Like now, it's similar to racing right every you show up to Anaheim.
00:07:06
You're just like, "Oh, I just need to kind of get through the first one and get a couple under your belt."
00:07:10
It's the same thing in the booth.
00:07:11
Like the first one was rough.
00:07:13
Second one was better.
00:07:14
Now, last week, Anaheim, too, was much better.
00:07:17
So, and, you know, of course, have an atom with me.
00:07:19
Like, it's a lot of fun.
00:07:20
We can have some banter.
00:07:22
We can really analyze during while the, while the bikes run track, but then when they're not, it's, it's, it's just a lot of fun and keeps me engaged.
00:07:29
Are you checking in with Supercross when you're in the desert and you're sleeping bag?
00:07:32
No, everybody there is like into Supercar.
00:07:34
You know Bradley Cox.
00:07:34
You know him.
00:07:36
He's like, give me, yeah, you're crazy.
00:07:38
But yeah, he's giving me the play by play.
00:07:40
The KTM guys are all in there.
00:07:41
We all take bets on who's going to do what?
00:07:44
Yeah.
00:07:44
How do you sponsor him?
00:07:45
I gave him a hammer deal.
00:07:47
Yeah, yeah, he had a hammer sticker.
00:07:48
I know what happens when he put the pole standing on that.
00:07:51
He created crash.
00:07:52
He did.
00:07:52
I'll show you the red guy driving.
00:07:54
I just wonder if he after the stuff.
00:07:57
Like, it was bad.
00:07:57
Well, he was doing well, right?
00:07:59
Yeah, he was doing real good.
00:08:00
That was the day after resting.
00:08:01
I didn't sponsor him then, but this latest crash, I was not sponsor, but then I sponsor him and he crashed hard.
00:08:07
Yeah, it wasn't great.
00:08:08
We got freestyle going on behind us, which which just did a backflip after a while for freestyle.
00:08:16
Do you remember when they first started doing backflips?
00:08:18
You were just, oh, yeah, like, dude, it was the craziest thing ever.
00:08:21
And now these guys do it in their sleep.
00:08:22
It's which did that 10 years ago.
00:08:24
We would be flying out of our seat right now.
00:08:27
But now I just look and we just keep talking.
00:08:29
Yeah, Metzger did the double over the fountains or whatever.
00:08:31
He was like an ESPN thing and what we were like tuned into it and everything.
00:08:35
I used to love mercy, you know, when they hired the freestyle guys and it was just unreal.
00:08:39
It's where he tears.
00:08:39
Yeah, he's still there, even from.
00:08:42
Yeah, he's still doing his beatboxing.
00:08:45
Yeah, yeah, he's still doing it.
00:08:47
But it's funny talking about you two guys at BTO.
00:08:49
I mean, JP, you were finishing it up your career.
00:08:51
I mean, you hit your head really bad.
00:08:54
It's almost the infamous.
00:08:54
If you told me, are we going to see Brighton again?
00:08:57
I'd be like, I think that's it for him.
00:08:59
You know, like, I mean, when I first burned at Unidilla and me and Shorty just looked at each other, we're like, I mean, yep, okay.
00:09:07
But like, you had another second act, you know, third actor, whatever you want to say after that.
00:09:12
But it was a real impressive thing for you to come back from that for sure.
00:09:15
Yeah, I knew after that.
00:09:17
That's definitely when I made the decision to go Supergross only.
00:09:20
Yeah.
00:09:20
And then I wanted to travel some and then honestly, it was just by luck.
00:09:24
I really feel that way with just like my relationship with Honda.
00:09:28
And then, you know, globally, we've told this story a bunch of times, just with racing for you, even then coming back here and racing for Honda.
00:09:34
It definitely was like, maybe the best years of my career.
00:09:37
Yeah, for sure.
00:09:38
I am like, crusty and old.
00:09:41
And the glass is always half empty.
00:09:44
And I'm, you know, cynical.
00:09:46
But the racing this year has been good with three rounds down.
00:09:51
Like, I do think Jets going to start taking off, but maybe not.
00:09:56
I hope not.
00:09:57
I hope not.
00:09:57
But, but even still we got Eli is phenomenal.
00:10:00
And like, yep, three rounds shorty.
00:10:03
I love this series so far.
00:10:04
Yeah, I'm not a big Jason Anderson fan and I was stoked to see him up there last week.
00:10:08
Kenny with the red plate.
00:10:10
Like what?
00:10:10
Kind of crazy as well.
00:10:12
And Eli's been so strong.
00:10:13
All these guys.
00:10:15
I think Chase with the KTM, you never know when he, he's definitely in it.
00:10:18
It's better.
00:10:19
Yeah.
00:10:19
The bike's better.
00:10:20
A hundred percent.
00:10:21
Yeah.
00:10:21
The race has been awesome.
00:10:22
And the kids, too, on the two of you, yeah, for the week, quote unquote, weak coast.
00:10:26
I think it's been, it's been fun to watch a lot of, a lot of good parity.
00:10:30
Thankfully, it's top heavy there, right?
00:10:32
I stepped up, Hayden stepped up and the drama.
00:10:36
I love this drama.
00:10:39
Do you really speak as dude?
00:10:39
I'm not in it like you guys at home.
00:10:40
It's like it's spicy.
00:10:41
I like it.
00:10:42
You know, we had deleted Instagram this week.
00:10:45
Yeah.
00:10:46
We deleted it.
00:10:46
Give us more of that.
00:10:48
I love it.
00:10:48
Sure.
00:10:49
But shorty, if you're juju, you've got to take that opportunity.
00:10:52
Oh, yeah.
00:10:53
In, uh, in the main, right?
00:10:54
Yeah.
00:10:54
I mean, he just did that to you and you got to take it.
00:10:57
Yeah.
00:10:57
Oh, you guys do think that?
00:10:58
Oh, yeah.
00:10:58
We were talking about this on Monday night.
00:10:59
I have to take that.
00:11:00
Yeah.
00:11:01
I made some dumb decisions throughout my career all time.
00:11:04
Like I would get too emotional and just try to smash people.
00:11:06
But so I'm probably not the best person to comment on this.
00:11:10
You know, like an etiquette strategy and all this stuff.
00:11:12
But yeah, you got to go.
00:11:14
It was there for him, but especially since you just had it done to you.
00:11:18
Yeah.
00:11:18
That's the reason I say that.
00:11:20
If that hadn't been done to him, I'd be like, uh, maybe a little more aggressive.
00:11:24
But it just happened to you.
00:11:25
You have to take that opportunity and imagine what the series looks like today.
00:11:29
Yeah.
00:11:29
If he took that opportunity, he was 10 up going into and I'm two.
00:11:32
Yeah.
00:11:33
He probably wins that race.
00:11:34
Maybe draw passes and we don't know for sure.
00:11:36
Down.
00:11:37
No two.
00:11:37
Oh, come on.
00:11:39
Then they're both down at least.
00:11:41
Yeah.
00:11:41
I just, I just think the momentum switch.
00:11:45
Like crazy.
00:11:46
Yeah.
00:11:46
Yeah.
00:11:46
Yeah.
00:11:46
He had all the momentum and you want to keep that right.
00:11:49
Andrew, you want to keep that role.
00:11:51
Yeah.
00:11:51
And if he could have made him not win for three weeks in a row.
00:11:55
Right.
00:11:55
It's not over yet.
00:11:56
Yeah.
00:11:57
I feel like it's we, uh, we had we had rocks in on the show Monday.
00:12:02
Both of you know him well.
00:12:03
Not surprising.
00:12:04
He's like, I don't feel like we talk enough about him.
00:12:07
I really don't.
00:12:07
I just, you know, he's got new suspension guy.
00:12:10
That works transmission now for the first time on a Suzuki.
00:12:13
And he's got the red plate.
00:12:15
Like, I was getting mad at JT on Monday.
00:12:17
Imagine that.
00:12:17
No, on the review pod.
00:12:18
Sorry on Sunday.
00:12:19
Because JT's like, oh, he's not going to hold on to it.
00:12:20
He's not going to win the title.
00:12:22
I'm like, yeah, man.
00:12:23
But it's still such a cool story.
00:12:24
Like, can we just celebrate Kenny JT within his little realist box?
00:12:28
Because I don't think he's going to win this title.
00:12:30
But, but it's so awesome.
00:12:31
Well, Ken would probably say that to you too.
00:12:34
Right?
00:12:34
Like, I don't think he thinks he is going to win the title, but you never know.
00:12:38
Yeah.
00:12:39
But I love that the best thing I love is Andrew can probably attest to this as well.
00:12:43
I love seeing how happy Ken is with the red plate.
00:12:47
And like, he's taking in these podiums.
00:12:49
Like, he's truly enjoying it because Andrew.
00:12:52
Well, before I did.
00:12:53
And I just think when you're at that level, like, he was miserable for a while, right?
00:12:57
You're in that factory ride mode.
00:12:59
And you have so much pressure.
00:13:00
And then, you know, I was with him on days where I thought he was maybe going to retire and to break through that.
00:13:06
Yeah.
00:13:07
And to get on the other side and enjoy it.
00:13:08
Eli's there now as well.
00:13:09
Where you're smiling.
00:13:10
You're enjoying it.
00:13:11
You're loving it.
00:13:11
And you just know that the end is in sight.
00:13:14
So you're just you're just absorbing these podiums.
00:13:17
And now the red plate.
00:13:18
Like, I love that he's soaking it in whether he wins the title or not.
00:13:21
That's to be determined to be determined.
00:13:23
But I just love that he's happy and really, really enjoying these these moments.
00:13:27
Yeah, I think the same.
00:13:28
I think statistically, he's probably not going to be strong at the end of the season.
00:13:33
It's been that way for a while.
00:13:34
But maybe this year's new.
00:13:35
I don't know.
00:13:36
Maybe has himself believe.
00:13:37
I don't know what all that's like.
00:13:39
But generally end of the races, too.
00:13:40
He's kind of not there.
00:13:41
And he's been strong.
00:13:43
Start the end of the races this year.
00:13:44
He's been racing all winter.
00:13:45
Him and Eli, they came out firing this year.
00:13:47
But they had a strong offseason by racing.
00:13:49
When those other guys were testing and doing the dog component show at the test track.
00:13:54
I think that's really helping him and Eli plus, like you said, they're they're being authentic to who they are in their emotions and trying to enjoy the later parts of their career.
00:14:04
And that's good because most people get better and kind of burn out at the end.
00:14:07
And you can see they have fire in them.
00:14:09
So that's awesome.
00:14:10
I got to say I'm really surprised at Tomac.
00:14:12
I look, the oldest supercross champion ever.
00:14:14
It was 29 years old.
00:14:15
JB, you're the oldest one to win the main event.
00:14:19
And he is number four on the list or five on the list.
00:14:24
And the reason is is rare.
00:14:26
It's just because of the 70 week grind and everything else that you guys know.
00:14:29
Dude, he's impressive.
00:14:30
I mean, he's not just in it.
00:14:32
Like he has he been the fastest guy.
00:14:34
You might say he has been.
00:14:36
Yeah.
00:14:36
Yeah, it makes qualifying facets in both sessions.
00:14:39
Yep.
00:14:39
At Anaheim one.
00:14:40
And I totally agree with Andrew just the racing and just being sharp like extra one or two percent.
00:14:47
You know, I did that a lot.
00:14:48
And I felt so much different at Anaheim one when I race the preseason races.
00:14:52
I mean, there's just you're not quite as nervous.
00:14:54
You know, your motorcycle.
00:14:55
You know that you can throw down the very first qualifying session of the day rather than learning your bike and struggling and holding your breath.
00:15:01
And then you get a gate drop and you just, I don't know, you're just that extra intensity is always there.
00:15:06
So I love that for Eli.
00:15:08
And then, you know, like I mentioned him just enjoying it.
00:15:11
And I really think that's going to help them down the stretch of just not feeling the pressure because you know, we say can probably may not think that he's going to win the championship.
00:15:20
And maybe that does him some favors down the stretch and doesn't have the pressure and because before, you know, teammates with him at Honda like that.
00:15:27
If he didn't win, it was a miserable week.
00:15:29
Yeah, he had.
00:15:30
And then when he won, it was like he could enjoy it for two days.
00:15:33
And he would always say Tuesday morning.
00:15:34
Here we go again, like the pressure.
00:15:36
Yeah, it was hard to close on him.
00:15:37
You know, until you get to Saturday.
00:15:39
And so now I mean, you know, he's really enjoying it having fun and I think it's going to help him down the stretch.
00:15:45
Yeah, I do.
00:15:45
I agree.
00:15:46
It's really cool to see he's made some bike changes and stuff that he seems to like and tires and stuff.
00:15:52
Like, yeah, he seems like he's in a good spot, right?
00:15:54
Or you're not searching, searching, searching because sometimes he's been done that.
00:15:57
Sometimes he's done that, you know, so.
00:15:59
Yeah.
00:15:59
And do you think that's pressure short?
00:16:01
Do you think there's a moment where you're like, maybe not riding as well or you got the points lead halfway through.
00:16:06
And it's just like, you're kind of always searching for more.
00:16:09
And then just things start to close in on you and he just doesn't perform like he's supposed to.
00:16:13
Yeah, I think when you're thinking like that, the brain slows down, right?
00:16:16
Or you have those expectations, like you said, I don't know, go both ways.
00:16:20
Different people handle it differently.
00:16:22
He he won a world championship.
00:16:23
Kenny did when he was 16, you know.
00:16:25
So, but going back to Eli, he's quote unquote old, you said, right or old.
00:16:30
Yeah.
00:16:30
But you look at him.
00:16:31
He still looks like he's quick and like he's moving on the bike.
00:16:34
He looks skinny and fit for Eli.
00:16:36
He doesn't look like he's getting big or old man style, you know.
00:16:40
He's still sending it.
00:16:41
I mean, he looks happy.
00:16:42
So, yeah, I think between both of those guys, they have a lot of momentum.
00:16:46
It's just whether or not they carry it through the season.
00:16:49
Yeah, it's it's been cool to watch so far for sure.
00:16:51
And and I think sexton is the sleeper here.
00:16:54
It's a super super super, super gosh, you have to be a sleeper.
00:16:57
I think sexton's just a little bit of a sleeper here.
00:16:59
You know, because we are looking at talking about Eli's speed and jets jet.
00:17:02
The defending champ.
00:17:03
That's the biggest thing is is jet.
00:17:06
I mean, you know, with him winning probably still not all the way comfortable.
00:17:09
And all that all the way comfortable on his bike.
00:17:10
I think it looks better, but it still doesn't look like he could come into those loops last week and send it like jet normally does.
00:17:17
You know, he's still getting some kicks here and there.
00:17:19
So once he gets comfortable, I'm scared for everybody else.
00:17:21
I'm scared.
00:17:24
You know that like that could it literally could start this weekend, but to Andrew's point like Tomac is hungry.
00:17:32
And the thing that I don't want to mention about Tomac is once you get older, you know, he's got, you know, way more money than I ever had, right?
00:17:40
But for him to still want to do it.
00:17:43
That's the thing that's crazy to me is like he could just disappear and go to Colorado and raise his kids and have all his money and he's got all the titles.
00:17:49
He's got everything.
00:17:50
And then he has this injury and it's like fully remotivated him and to come here and and race is one thing, but to come here and want to win and want to put in the work and look at and be even.
00:17:59
It is a form round the world supercross.
00:18:02
You know, I mean, I think he did that though because of this.
00:18:05
Okay, I think that of course there's some money there.
00:18:08
Yeah, but I think he learned so much and it was at 2022 coming into 23 when he was on fire and he won the Anaheim opener.
00:18:14
Yeah, he did some offseason races that year and I think it really taught him like, all right, yeah, this racing, especially once you get older helps a ton is get that, you know, kind of sharpens you up a little bit.
00:18:25
Yep.
00:18:26
And but for him to want to be at the front weekend and week out and pushing like that and qualifying even like, man, I don't know if short if you watch a qualifying, but these guys are wanting to be fast.
00:18:38
Yeah, they are pushing it.
00:18:39
It's fun.
00:18:39
There's a lot of guys over the years that are like, I don't care about qualifying.
00:18:43
It doesn't matter.
00:18:44
Fourth gate pick is fine.
00:18:46
And there's points to that and then I get that and these guys are like, nope, that's what we go.
00:18:51
Yeah, like Jets lap at Anaheim was ridiculous.
00:18:55
Just pushing, you know, and yeah, I jumped over the tabletop did all that, you know.
00:19:00
I was talking to somebody that Honda and they're telling me that the shock still a bit of an issue like halfway through the stroke through the stroke doesn't kind of has a hard spot.
00:19:10
And they're working on that and they put some old suspension parts in and they told me that all those stuff that's bugging Hunter right now and Jets just an alien and he can just ride over it and they're like,
00:19:22
do you feel this?
00:19:22
And he was like, and they're hundreds like, hey man, like we got to work on this and Jets just like, yeah, it doesn't bother me.
00:19:29
So just think about when it does get better.
00:19:32
So, so Hunter will make it better for Jets.
00:19:35
I think so.
00:19:36
Yeah, I think so.
00:19:36
I think so.
00:19:38
I'll end up happening.
00:19:38
Hunter's going to test it and get it better and then give it to Jets.
00:19:40
And then it's going to be better.
00:19:41
And then off Jets goes.
00:19:43
I'm not a big bike setup guy as you know, like, you know, but I mean the bikes work so well in SMX and they work so well in outdoors.
00:19:51
It is odd and I can see it and you can see the brothers.
00:19:54
So there is something there.
00:19:56
I'm not calling BS, but it is really odd that an SMX.
00:20:00
Everything seemed to be great.
00:20:01
Yeah.
00:20:02
And I know it's not full supergust, but it's close, you know, and now we're battling this.
00:20:06
It's the easiest thing that changes the riders and the mindset of it all.
00:20:11
So it's like cancer.
00:20:12
It's like once you start thinking about the bike, it just like takes over.
00:20:15
And you got to be careful with this because of those guys develop a quote unquote virus saying something's not right and people trying to justify their jobs and trying to make the bike perfect.
00:20:24
I don't think that's the way to go.
00:20:25
And when you have all the resources in the world like Honda does, I think that's what's been so good about them recently is they.
00:20:32
They've really controlled that.
00:20:34
They've let the riders race the bike.
00:20:35
And I think they've had a lot of success.
00:20:37
So they have good people there and they know how to keep everyone going in the same direction.
00:20:41
They'll be interesting to see how they let this whole new bike thing go as the season.
00:20:45
I will say like a lot of moto parents are crazy and nuts and I want to talk to them.
00:20:50
And I've seen them over the years.
00:20:52
I went to the compound last year with Darren Lawrence there and hung out for a day and he's pretty intelligent.
00:20:57
He's pretty intelligent man.
00:20:58
I watched he was telling me about some of the stuff on the bikes and I'm like, yeah, I see it too.
00:21:02
And he's talking about some electronic stuff and yeah, like he's not one of those he can rein it in.
00:21:07
I think so.
00:21:07
I think so.
00:21:08
You know, so I like how he, you know, sometimes it is the bike and sometimes it's the riders and he'll let jet and hunter know.
00:21:15
That's what's cool to me is like, right.
00:21:17
No, guys, that bikes good.
00:21:18
You need to go win on it.
00:21:19
Yeah.
00:21:19
And they listen like they like.
00:21:22
Yeah.
00:21:22
Okay.
00:21:22
You're right.
00:21:23
Yeah.
00:21:23
Every story.
00:21:24
Big story this week with Lucas Myrtle news.
00:21:25
Obviously we don't really know much more than that.
00:21:27
But that's a big thing that it was really huge.
00:21:29
Yeah, the industry when you look at the number of riders at Myrtle represents or represented and then the Lawrence family and all the things he's done for them and they've done for him.
00:21:39
It's it's a big thing.
00:21:40
Yeah.
00:21:41
Yeah.
00:21:41
Even outside of business.
00:21:42
I just think of just human beings in general and jet and hunter and the whole Lawrence family like they've been with Lucas since day one.
00:21:49
And he was with them all the time.
00:21:51
I mean that you could tell like they truly cared for each other.
00:21:53
And I don't know how many times I heard the Lawrence is say that Lucas is family.
00:21:57
And now for this to happen.
00:21:59
I can't imagine just emotionally like on the human level.
00:22:01
Yeah.
00:22:02
Let alone, you know, everything else like whatever.
00:22:05
Yeah, happen.
00:22:05
Other, you know, outside of that.
00:22:07
But that had to be pretty tough.
00:22:08
But then jet just sweeps it on the rug and go wins.
00:22:10
It's kind of what I was thinking too.
00:22:12
I was wondering if it was going to bug him or affect him.
00:22:13
And, you know, yeah, no problem.
00:22:15
He's jet Lawrence.
00:22:16
So.
00:22:17
Yeah.
00:22:17
And hunters been riding well too.
00:22:19
I mean, two top fives in a row.
00:22:20
Like that's pretty solid.
00:22:21
I really think that I mean, the guys in front of me.
00:22:25
So like would we expect him to beat those guys right now in front of him?
00:22:29
Maybe not.
00:22:29
And he always finishes the season strong.
00:22:31
Yeah, um, short before he wrapped us up triple crowns.
00:22:32
Would you have liked them?
00:22:34
I don't know.
00:22:36
It's great.
00:22:36
What does it matter?
00:22:38
Yeah.
00:22:38
It's good.
00:22:39
I love it.
00:22:40
You're not a court of law here.
00:22:42
You know, he would have loved to use a great start.
00:22:47
Yeah.
00:22:47
I would have loved them.
00:22:48
That's right.
00:22:49
There we go.
00:22:49
There we go.
00:22:50
Awesome, guys.
00:22:51
Well, hey, thank you for coming in.
00:22:53
WPS National Sales Meeting and long time fly guys.
00:22:56
Both of you.
00:22:56
And it's awesome.
00:22:57
We're trying to get Canard here in a little bit.
00:22:58
And maybe some of the some of the guys are still race.
00:23:01
We'll see what they're around.
00:23:02
But Justin Braden and you're short.
00:23:03
Thanks guys.
00:23:04
Thanks Matthew.
00:23:05
All right.
00:23:05
Now we're here with supercross champion, motorcross champion and a new member of the fly racing family starting 2025 Cooper.
00:23:13
What's up, buddy?
00:23:13
How are you?
00:23:14
What's up guys?
00:23:14
We're here.
00:23:14
Yeah.
00:23:15
Thanks for coming.
00:23:15
Thanks for doing this.
00:23:16
Thanks for coming to this National Sales Meeting.
00:23:18
Your first time with the fly guys.
00:23:20
You did have choices in the offseason.
00:23:21
And you know, people would throw money at you.
00:23:24
But how's it going with fly?
00:23:25
Like what made you decide to do it?
00:23:26
And how's it going?
00:23:27
It's been awesome.
00:23:28
Yeah.
00:23:28
Like you said, it was, you know, free agency for the gear wise and stuff like that.
00:23:32
And it worked out well.
00:23:33
We we started negotiating pretty early on.
00:23:36
And yeah, like you said, I had a few options.
00:23:38
And it just always felt right every conversation we had.
00:23:42
They're outlook on the sport and the future and what they wanted to build with me and the way they were going to maybe market me.
00:23:49
And it just made sense.
00:23:51
It really did.
00:23:52
So yeah, I'm stoked on everything.
00:23:53
I feel.
00:23:54
I feel like I just have have a new fresh look.
00:23:56
I've been stoked with these first, you know, five races I've done.
00:24:01
I feel like I just look good.
00:24:02
Feel good type thing, right?
00:24:04
Yeah, yeah.
00:24:05
And even Phil.
00:24:06
Phil says he hates fly.
00:24:08
But I look unreal and fly.
00:24:10
Is that what he said?
00:24:11
Yes.
00:24:11
Oh, wow.
00:24:11
You're at least up this weekend with the helmet and everything was was a sharp look.
00:24:14
I know the results weren't there, but it was a good look.
00:24:17
Not at least they look good.
00:24:18
Right?
00:24:18
If you're not going to do good, at least you look good.
00:24:21
Yeah, the best part is just Phil thought he had you with those guys, you know, the guys that he works with.
00:24:26
He thought it was going to happen.
00:24:27
But that's the best part to me, you know, that guy, you know.
00:24:31
So comment.
00:24:32
I should have saw him on track walk, dude, this weekend.
00:24:35
Like he was like he showed up.
00:24:37
Like he was.
00:24:38
I don't know.
00:24:38
He just stood on the first jump and just kind of looked at everybody and went, eh, eh, you know, and, you know, kind of offered words of advice.
00:24:44
Yeah, like it was like cool guy almost.
00:24:45
Yeah, it was like, Hey, I've been here before.
00:24:47
Yeah, if you guys need any help, holler.
00:24:50
Yeah, pretty much, pretty much.
00:24:52
Also, I got blessed with him.
00:24:54
He was in California this week.
00:24:56
Yep.
00:24:57
I got to saw him at the Yamaha track.
00:24:58
He was.
00:24:58
Oh, he actually came with the Yamaha track.
00:25:00
Yeah.
00:25:01
Yeah, not sure what he was doing, but he was there.
00:25:04
Joining us to Jason Thomas with up JT.
00:25:06
Not too much.
00:25:06
This is like, I don't say my show, but kind of my show.
00:25:10
So I'm just coming in hot.
00:25:12
Oh, yeah.
00:25:12
I wasn't invited.
00:25:13
I'm coming in.
00:25:14
Did you?
00:25:15
We probably shouldn't even.
00:25:16
I'm under strict embargo.
00:25:18
I'm not talking about this about Phil.
00:25:20
But like, you know how there's ups and downs in his relationship life.
00:25:23
Yes.
00:25:23
We're on an upright now.
00:25:24
Are you aware of the highest?
00:25:25
Are you aware?
00:25:26
Yeah.
00:25:27
Yeah.
00:25:27
I'm aware.
00:25:28
There's still won't talk about it though.
00:25:29
No.
00:25:29
There's a trip to Vegas this week.
00:25:31
Yeah.
00:25:32
He's he's in Vegas right now.
00:25:33
I'm here.
00:25:34
But we brought it up at our live show and he was like freaking out.
00:25:37
Yeah, he was freaking out.
00:25:39
He was like 12 years old.
00:25:41
Yeah, he had a respect his privacy, but we're happy for him.
00:25:45
We don't have a girlfriend.
00:25:46
It's okay.
00:25:47
When we've been mentioned, he's like, you can see his eyes.
00:25:51
Yeah, like I don't tell him.
00:25:52
He knows he knows more than you to like as far as news.
00:25:57
Yeah, dude.
00:25:57
He is a first to know.
00:25:58
He is plugged in.
00:25:59
But then on the flip side, you don't even know what what state he's in.
00:26:04
No, where he lives.
00:26:05
You know, nothing about his dad told me one time that he flew over him.
00:26:09
He flew over New York to visit like wherever she was.
00:26:13
And the dad was like, I didn't even know he flew right over my house.
00:26:21
Anyways, you know, the last few years it's been really cool to see.
00:26:24
You know, obviously at star and as a 2.50 guy, you did your thing.
00:26:29
You're winning very serious though.
00:26:30
Like not.
00:26:31
I didn't know you that well, but your personality's really come out the last three or four years and look.
00:26:36
Yeah, you got championships.
00:26:37
You know, you maybe you feel a little more secure to say what you think or you know, all that kind of stuff.
00:26:41
But you do.
00:26:41
I do feel like you've been more media friendly the last two or three years.
00:26:45
And it's been nice because you're funny.
00:26:46
You know, I mean, like you do feel that same way where you're a little more relaxed.
00:26:50
Let's say.
00:26:50
Oh, for sure.
00:26:51
You know, I think it was tough.
00:26:53
You're always, you know, trained to talk a certain way, right?
00:26:57
And I think in our time or whatever, it was just an error where it was like, Hey, you need to thank your sponsors.
00:27:03
You need to keep it short and sweet.
00:27:04
I had a lot of personality.
00:27:07
Maybe a little arrogant on a 2.50 as we know.
00:27:09
And as you get your butt kicked, you get humble and you shut up.
00:27:14
And.
00:27:14
But yeah, like I said, coming to star.
00:27:16
And I was not trying to say I wasn't able to at KTM.
00:27:19
But I think it was a very as we know a strict program, you know, with everyone they have and then bald.
00:27:25
So just being able to do your thing.
00:27:27
You're not worried about, you know, HR or anything at star, right?
00:27:30
I think Bobby Reagan has this cover there.
00:27:33
I can't say anything too bad.
00:27:35
So yeah, yeah, just just more laxed.
00:27:37
I think when you're around more, you know, I shouldn't say friends, but I have a lot of friends at star.
00:27:45
Yeah, KTM was great, but it was strictly business.
00:27:48
Yeah.
00:27:49
So I think now having that that match of business, mixed with friendships, mixed with just joking around, but being able to have the switch to turn it on when it's turned on.
00:27:58
So it's been nice.
00:27:59
Like I said, trying to show show more my personality.
00:28:01
And it's something that's been there.
00:28:03
I just never felt comfortable or confident up to really be myself.
00:28:06
So it's been nice.
00:28:08
Yeah.
00:28:08
I do know, sorry, I just want to know from comments from my listeners like they're just like, where was this literally?
00:28:13
Where has this couple web been for years?
00:28:15
You know, what's up with that?
00:28:16
You know what I mean?
00:28:17
Like just the last few times you've been on the last few years.
00:28:19
So I think the fans really dig it because you do.
00:28:22
You just come across as like a real dude busting your friends balls and, you know, making jokes and, you know, for sure.
00:28:27
And like I said, I think that was always before kind of frowned upon, right?
00:28:31
Like you had to kind of.
00:28:33
I don't know.
00:28:34
Maybe maybe it wasn't like that, but that's what I took it.
00:28:36
Yeah.
00:28:36
So for guys that you're level on that subject is there maybe not for you, but could you see that there's a fear of if you say anything, you're going to get backlash for it.
00:28:46
So the best route is just say nothing.
00:28:48
And then nobody can take sure.
00:28:49
And I do think a lot of guys struggle with fan engagement as far as what people think about them or the comments or the hate or the this or the that.
00:28:59
I've been fortunate where I've never gave a rat's ass about that.
00:29:02
I've been hated for a long time.
00:29:04
And I've been loved for a long time.
00:29:06
So I take it for what it is.
00:29:08
But I do think it's a real thing.
00:29:10
And there it's it's tough.
00:29:12
You know, it's a it's a real thing that I think athletes go through.
00:29:15
We've heard Jett talk about it this year.
00:29:16
And we hear Hayden talk about it nonstop.
00:29:18
You know, so.
00:29:20
From my in no, but I think from a general purpose.
00:29:23
Yes, I think from my end, it was always scared of getting an email on Monday.
00:29:28
Yeah, saying hey, you can't talk about this or you need to clean it up here.
00:29:32
Sure.
00:29:33
Yeah.
00:29:33
So, but yeah, I mean, it's a tough balance.
00:29:36
You want to show yourself and be your own person in this and that.
00:29:39
But there's always criticism.
00:29:40
And I think it could be taken sometimes if you're joking around or being too light.
00:29:45
People are like, well, maybe he's not serious enough.
00:29:47
Right.
00:29:47
And that was something that that maybe I worried about too much as well.
00:29:50
I just want to be serious.
00:29:51
And like JT, I think that's a good point.
00:29:52
Like some people don't like how media talks about him or this and that.
00:29:56
And so they just don't talk to him.
00:29:58
Right.
00:29:58
Yeah.
00:29:59
Yeah.
00:29:59
It's a little insecurity.
00:30:00
I think.
00:30:01
Yeah.
00:30:01
That I see.
00:30:01
It's not an answer, right.
00:30:02
Like UI and Dundra like that.
00:30:03
They're just like, you know what?
00:30:05
I'm just not going to say anything.
00:30:06
I'm just thank my sponsors and get the hell out of here.
00:30:08
Yeah.
00:30:09
And nobody's going to be able to say word.
00:30:10
They're not going to really like me.
00:30:11
Like it's hard to build a fan base when you don't have a personality.
00:30:14
Yeah.
00:30:14
Until the end, like everybody sees how much they love you.
00:30:16
I can just stand there.
00:30:17
But for years, he was personally like being his teammate.
00:30:21
He's so much more relaxed, even from like, in my opinion, this year than last year.
00:30:26
Yeah.
00:30:27
And even the earlier days when we battled when he was on Cali and going for a championship.
00:30:30
I mean, dude, he was you couldn't even say, hey to him.
00:30:33
Where at least now, like even our nation's trip.
00:30:35
I had a blast with Eli.
00:30:37
Yeah.
00:30:37
Like he had his hair down.
00:30:38
So like I said, though, everyone's different.
00:30:41
And I think, yeah, judgment is a real thing.
00:30:43
Right.
00:30:43
Yeah.
00:30:43
Yeah.
00:30:43
Yeah.
00:30:43
For sure.
00:30:44
And JT for fly purposes.
00:30:45
I mean, you're getting coop, like winter lose.
00:30:48
I feel like you're getting cooped at the peak of his, you know, sort of popularity with fans, you know.
00:30:52
Everybody loves the supercross champions.
00:30:53
Motorcross championships that you've gotten.
00:30:55
But I think people are just want to relate to you guys.
00:30:59
And they do that to you the last few years.
00:31:01
So good for fly.
00:31:02
Well, I always felt like, coop was we were, you know, like, governing someone else's thing, right?
00:31:06
It was always like, man, if we could ever like have coop or web, that would be awesome.
00:31:11
But he was married to someone else, you know.
00:31:13
When that opportunity arose, we're like, yeah, we're going to date with coop right now.
00:31:17
Yeah.
00:31:18
So I truly believe it was one of those things.
00:31:21
You don't want to call it like fate or whatever.
00:31:23
It was a right person at the right time in the right situation.
00:31:25
And everything like just felt right about it.
00:31:28
Like he fits what we're trying to do.
00:31:30
His personality fits our brand.
00:31:32
Like, it's just weird how things fall into place sometimes.
00:31:36
And we had the right situation.
00:31:37
We needed that guy desperately.
00:31:39
It's just, yeah, I don't know, you know, like other than just saying everything fell into place perfectly.
00:31:45
It's really hard to describe otherwise.
00:31:46
You know, because I've been in situations where trying to force it.
00:31:49
And it's not the right person in the right situation.
00:31:51
They're just like, we'll screw it right a bigger check.
00:31:53
We got to get him.
00:31:54
And it doesn't really work.
00:31:56
Yeah.
00:31:56
It doesn't fit.
00:31:57
And you really see no traction from it.
00:31:59
The writer's not happy because it's just not the right brand fit for them.
00:32:02
The brand really doesn't benefit anything because there's no engagement with the fans.
00:32:05
And they don't connect with it.
00:32:06
And it's just that everybody kind of loses things.
00:32:08
And this always felt like the opposite of that.
00:32:10
But are you one thing you're worried about though?
00:32:12
And you can get into this as much as you want.
00:32:14
Like, obviously we're buddies with Nick Gray, right?
00:32:17
And for a long time, he was MSR forever.
00:32:18
And then I had a couple of people who work at gear companies.
00:32:21
They're like, I don't want to sign Nick because he's one MSR for 10 years.
00:32:25
And people aren't going to think of him as as our guy.
00:32:28
He was in Thor for a long time.
00:32:29
So you got, you got to really work at that, right?
00:32:31
So my perception and coupe, please don't take this the wrong way.
00:32:34
But I don't ever really felt like you were put out in front of Thor and made like, this is Thor's guy, bar none period.
00:32:40
No, this is the brand's representation across every platform.
00:32:43
I never felt that with coupe, right?
00:32:45
So we benefit from that because I don't feel like that ever happened.
00:32:49
Good point where Nick was MSR's guy.
00:32:51
We can run with that because like he's our guy, like, coupe is our guy.
00:32:55
He's going to be everywhere, like every ad, every push.
00:32:58
You know, we have other people we need to take care of also.
00:33:00
But I don't think there's any doubt about where I remember one effort is for 2025 and beyond is Cooper Web.
00:33:05
So your point is valid.
00:33:07
I just don't think the prior situation really took advantage of that.
00:33:11
And I think too, like I say, like I'm almost at the part two of my 450 career, right?
00:33:16
Like I feel like everyone knew me as a and does as a Red Bull KTM, maybe Thor.
00:33:23
Now it's like a part two, right?
00:33:25
We came in.
00:33:25
We did Yamaha.
00:33:27
Um, you know, just as good as a racer, but off the bikes better.
00:33:30
This new look, like like JT said, it was right timing.
00:33:33
And it is hard, right?
00:33:34
When you're in a company, but I agree I felt like it was something that was a priority for me to be a top dog for one of these companies and it fit really well.
00:33:45
And it will for as long as our partnership will go, you know?
00:33:48
On the racing side of things.
00:33:49
So obviously not the A2 you wanted.
00:33:51
You mentioned earlier when we were on stage about testing with Gilly, more like Cali hard pack stuff.
00:33:57
Good for Glendale this weekend.
00:33:58
Like that kind of fix or that kind of change.
00:34:00
Yeah, exactly.
00:34:01
And I think and I say like eighth place sucks, but my riding was actually good.
00:34:07
Um, you know, we said it today.
00:34:08
I do feel like with a good starter a Jacobs start.
00:34:11
I could have been that three to five range and in the fight.
00:34:14
Yeah.
00:34:15
So with that being said, as we know, it's it starts our key right now.
00:34:19
I had the same issue as Eli where we're soon as we hit the dirt just spun.
00:34:23
So anyway, with that being said, we had to also back to back big slip whoops this weekend and that was an area of focus knowing we're going to Glendale where it's slippery.
00:34:31
I feel like I'm great on the East Coast.
00:34:33
My bike's amazing on the East Coast, but I do think when the traction went away, we just needed to be able to have something that could comply with it.
00:34:42
And I think we nailed it this week.
00:34:44
Now your media mogul friend Phil was on the show Monday and said that Jacob had a like wet great map in his bike.
00:34:51
I texted someone who would know and they said, it feels drunk.
00:34:55
So we were sort of like both can be true, both can be true, but was wrong.
00:35:00
Okay.
00:35:01
All right.
00:35:01
Technically, but was there a sort of a mapping option that you just said, Hey, I don't want to mess with it.
00:35:07
And you could have done that because Jacob watching that back.
00:35:10
There is no mud map.
00:35:12
I will put it like that.
00:35:13
Justin has been running a launch control.
00:35:15
Okay.
00:35:15
You don't have a launch control.
00:35:17
No, I'm not all natural.
00:35:19
Yeah, yeah.
00:35:20
Just want to feel that.
00:35:22
Right.
00:35:22
Right.
00:35:23
Right.
00:35:23
And an Eli has been to.
00:35:25
Yeah.
00:35:25
We have Kenny said the same thing on Monday.
00:35:27
Kenny doesn't have one either.
00:35:30
No, he's like, I don't like it.
00:35:31
I don't know.
00:35:32
Like, we worked on this week though.
00:35:34
I'll put it that way in case this scenario arises.
00:35:36
Sure.
00:35:37
We have one in our back pocket.
00:35:39
We typically will do a fork height.
00:35:43
Or sorry, start start height difference.
00:35:46
Yeah.
00:35:46
But as we saw there just wasn't enough time.
00:35:49
Yeah.
00:35:49
I'm surprised that you guys don't like.
00:35:51
I was surprised when Kenny said that.
00:35:52
I don't use a launch map.
00:35:53
And I'm like, wouldn't that be awesome to just hold the freaking thing pinned and like know that you're going to be driving forward.
00:35:59
But I guess.
00:35:59
Yeah.
00:36:00
Hey, listen.
00:36:01
Yeah.
00:36:01
I mean, it's it's you see it right with jet hunter like that.
00:36:04
That's something dialed in.
00:36:06
But I could say make the same argument.
00:36:09
I think Kawasaki runs it.
00:36:10
Obviously proud of the great starter, but like Jason is up and down.
00:36:14
Yeah.
00:36:15
So I don't know.
00:36:16
I think anytime I've tried it, there's some inconsistencies.
00:36:19
You almost have to have a hard pack a drippy this or that.
00:36:23
But you know, if your reps absolutely torched, sometimes start mapping and it gets you far in my opinion.
00:36:30
So I don't know.
00:36:31
Can I just take a like an extra four guard to the line and like like if it started raining on the line, you're sitting on the line.
00:36:36
It's like, we don't know.
00:36:37
It's dry when you go down.
00:36:39
It starts raining.
00:36:40
Yeah.
00:36:40
No, you should.
00:36:41
And I mean, we talked about the race.
00:36:43
It was on us, right?
00:36:44
Yeah.
00:36:45
As a group, we felt like, man, we should have had a game plan.
00:36:48
It's it's evident.
00:36:49
So we'll learn and definitely back your media mogul friend said it was like a wet great map.
00:36:55
So he's okay.
00:36:56
He's out to lunch.
00:36:57
He's out to lunch.
00:36:58
One of the big things for you going back to star was Ricky Gilmore and wanted to work with him.
00:37:04
Obviously, he lies guy for a long time.
00:37:06
Dude, he I've had a lot of conversations with Ricky.
00:37:09
He did my stuff.
00:37:10
Actually, one time.
00:37:11
That's the dude smart man.
00:37:13
He's a good rider.
00:37:14
Also, but like, I find myself every time I talk to him, I learn something.
00:37:18
It's pretty cool.
00:37:19
He's a smart guy.
00:37:20
It's amazing, man.
00:37:21
It really is.
00:37:22
I've had obviously a fair share of suspension guys and things of doing it.
00:37:26
And the first time I worked with him was too late.
00:37:29
I regret it all the time where when I came in, we took.
00:37:34
You know, he's in California.
00:37:35
Yeah, star doesn't really have a base in California.
00:37:37
They don't have parts.
00:37:38
They don't have.
00:37:39
You know, right now we do.
00:37:41
You know, when we're here for the month, we can use the Yamaha shop.
00:37:43
We can do this.
00:37:44
We can do that.
00:37:45
But in the off season, we don't even have a bike out here.
00:37:48
So for him to get to Florida is, you know, he's got a family.
00:37:51
He's got a family to and all that.
00:37:54
Yeah, he was able to come.
00:37:55
And every time he comes, it's mind blowing.
00:37:58
It really is.
00:37:58
We'll get to a point where I'm like, hey, I'm pretty happy.
00:38:02
He's like, yeah, I think we can be better.
00:38:05
And then we're there for for a day and a half.
00:38:07
And we're at a point where I didn't even think it was possible.
00:38:11
Yeah.
00:38:11
So that that's cool.
00:38:13
I mean, he's been.
00:38:14
I've been very happy with my last year setting.
00:38:15
And that's what I've been wrong the first three rounds.
00:38:18
And he's been chopping at the bit.
00:38:20
Yeah, we had.
00:38:22
We did test in the off season.
00:38:23
And then, you know, I had a little issue and we just went back to base.
00:38:27
And that's what I stuck with.
00:38:29
So being able to test this week, me and him just him watching him being a rider.
00:38:34
It's incredible.
00:38:35
It really is.
00:38:36
I'm used to like, hey, there's package ABC.
00:38:39
And he's like, yeah, I built a fork, but like, I'm just going to go on the fly type thing.
00:38:45
Yeah, yeah.
00:38:46
And before I'm even off the track, he's, it's like we're we're on the same same wavelength.
00:38:52
Right.
00:38:52
So man, it's been awesome.
00:38:54
I mean, I don't know what it does.
00:38:56
That's so special.
00:38:57
You know, but it's yeah, he's just incredible.
00:38:59
I think just from his his visual and his the way he can envision it and do it.
00:39:05
Right.
00:39:05
It's one thing to say you can do it.
00:39:07
But then to actually get in there internally and do it as a whole another thing.
00:39:10
Right.
00:39:10
And I think too for him, he doesn't have an ego.
00:39:13
He hasn't ego.
00:39:13
Everybody has an ego.
00:39:14
But I've I know we talked to Ross.
00:39:16
My head in a moment.
00:39:17
Well, do you think of this or I know he talks to other people that he's worked with Dave Arnold.
00:39:21
Yeah.
00:39:21
Dave, what do you think of this?
00:39:23
And like, you know what I mean?
00:39:24
Like even his style, right?
00:39:26
Like I've I've been where there's maybe a specialist on just the air fork or just this ring for it.
00:39:32
Dude, he'll give him whatever and he'll make magic with it.
00:39:35
Yes.
00:39:35
For me personally, it's been incredible.
00:39:38
Yeah.
00:39:38
Also, when he tells you, Hey, I want to make a change.
00:39:42
In my opinion, it's very rare.
00:39:44
That when I spent your guy makes a change that it's a 50 50.
00:39:47
Yeah, yeah.
00:39:48
With Gilly, it's about a 90 10 really.
00:39:50
Yeah.
00:39:50
Yeah.
00:39:51
Yeah.
00:39:51
Yeah.
00:39:51
I mean, it's just it's awesome.
00:39:53
Right.
00:39:53
I always felt like the I was like the best guys could watch you.
00:39:56
And when you came in, they already know what you're thinking.
00:39:59
They know what the bikes do and wrong.
00:40:00
You don't have to like, Hey, it's doing this.
00:40:02
And then they have to translate what that means and try to find a fix where they watch you and like, yeah, yeah, I already like, okay, tell me.
00:40:09
And like you said, a lot of these guys have a premium determined notion, right?
00:40:12
Or they have a, as we say it all the time, they have a box that they work with.
00:40:16
And hey, these are the things we've done the last 10 years that have worked.
00:40:19
And you know, sometimes that that translate, but when you run out of options in that box, and you're like, what now?
00:40:25
And that's all you really got.
00:40:27
It's hard to progress from there.
00:40:28
And like you said, with egos with political points, right?
00:40:31
Like that was something that before was, you know, you're limited on options because at the end of the day, these manufacturers need to sell dirt bikes.
00:40:39
And they want to do it a certain way.
00:40:40
Or they've spent X amount on factory parts or whatever it is.
00:40:43
That's one great thing about here.
00:40:45
You know, we have access to factory.
00:40:46
We have access to production in the middle.
00:40:48
And you do whatever the hell you want.
00:40:49
Yeah.
00:40:50
Actually, we made this joke last year that chase you.
00:40:52
Thank you for those KYB inserts.
00:40:53
Because I think they were so, you know, to me, yeah, they were just like, they were like, we got it.
00:40:58
We got to change our attitude because we're going to drive riders away.
00:41:01
And let's what can we do?
00:41:02
And Roger apparently was a big spirit for that.
00:41:05
So it's the same old question.
00:41:07
You know, you can translate it to anything business, racing, whatever.
00:41:10
Do you want to win?
00:41:11
Or do you want to be right?
00:41:12
Like you want to prove that you want like your way?
00:41:14
Or do you want to go win?
00:41:15
Yeah, because sometimes those aren't the same thing.
00:41:17
A couple more for you before that you go, you were off the bike for a little bit in December more than what I'd heard.
00:41:22
I heard that there was a crash and you were off the bike and it kind of turns out it was more than we thought.
00:41:26
I don't know how much you want to talk about it, but you did lose some weeks there, huh?
00:41:29
Yeah, I had a crash during the practice week.
00:41:33
That put me out a little bit.
00:41:35
Yeah, I don't want to say too much, but I'll just put it at that.
00:41:38
Definitely had an injury that about a four week deal.
00:41:41
Yeah, you know, it's tough.
00:41:44
You don't you.
00:41:46
You want to talk about it, but you don't and there's certain sponsors that's, you know, dispenser related contract related that that sometimes it's it's hard.
00:41:54
Yeah.
00:41:54
So anyway, like that being said, we're good.
00:41:56
We're in a good spot.
00:41:58
We're getting better.
00:42:00
I knew these first few would be maybe not as good as as what it should be, but it's been good enough to stay in the fight.
00:42:07
Well, I kind of knew that.
00:42:08
And then at the end of Anna, I want you're chasing Jason down and I'm like, Oh, shit.
00:42:13
Oh, like he's like he's, you know, fitness is good and dirt is good because you're getting.
00:42:17
So I was like, you know, fitness and all that surprisingly was good.
00:42:23
And I'll be honest, I'm the first to, you know, being with Elden all those years, he he was gnarly about not missing days.
00:42:29
And that's something now where with Swannapool, he kind of has to tell me sometimes, Hey, it's okay to take a day off here and there or do a little bit last here and there.
00:42:37
So I think it just shows how how our program really was working well.
00:42:42
I was having a great off season.
00:42:43
And I think that's why you have such a big block of training and riding is to be able to when you unfortunately do get injured or have sicknesses or this and that you're able to miss those days.
00:42:54
It's happening.
00:42:55
I think we're, I still think I'm getting better.
00:42:59
I think there's a little bit of rust.
00:43:00
We got to knock off speed being one of it.
00:43:03
But hey, it's part of the game, right?
00:43:05
Still having fun?
00:43:05
Still enjoying this grind?
00:43:07
I told someone this all season.
00:43:11
It was it was truly the funnest off season I've ever had.
00:43:14
And I just think once you get to a certain age and maybe JT can attest to this, you start to really enjoy it.
00:43:20
And you enjoy the process and enjoy the, for me, the people I'm around, the kids are fun for me, the teams fun for me.
00:43:28
And I can still win.
00:43:30
Yeah.
00:43:31
And I believe that whether people do or don't, that's what keeps me coming back.
00:43:36
And yeah, it's just a good time.
00:43:38
And I think I'm in a great spot and a great position.
00:43:40
Awesome.
00:43:40
Well, hey man, thanks for the time that I appreciate it and always, always good to chat with you.
00:43:45
Good luck this weekend in Glendale, man.
00:43:46
Yeah, thanks, Steve.
00:43:48
