Description

Today I’m going to be talking about the Black Monk of Pontefract. The case of the Pritchard family haunting of 30 East Drive, Pontefract. A 3 bedroom council house on an estate in West Yorkshire. The phenomenon was made into a movie by Bil Bungay in 2012 called “When the Lights Went Out”

The case caused a massive furore in the late 1960’s and was reported in local and national newspapers and made the locals very excited but when the haunting scenes stopped, the interest faded almost immediately.

The case was almost completely forgotten until ten years later when a young amateur historian who had a bit of a woody for Cluniac monks heard about the case and investigated that the case regained some interest.

The film was made in 2012 and the house eventually was bought by the film’s producer Bil Bungay _after_ the movie was produced. The movie wasn’t filed at 30 East Drive much to the annoyance of Bil Bungay who didn’t realise the house was for sale for years before filming began.
