Thousands of people have gathered in Hama to mark the first anniversary of the takeover of the Syrian city by rebels. The capture on December the 5th was a major turning point in the civil war and led to the end of the brutal decades-long Assad regime. Rebels seized the capital, Damascus, three days later, after Bashar al-Assad fled to exile in Russia.
