And that's what you really missed with Jenna and Kevin, an iHeartRadio podcast.
00:01:14
Welcome to you and that's what you really missed.
00:01:17
We are wishing everybody a very safe and happy and healthy new year heading into 2025.
00:01:24
I thank you so much for an amazing 2024.
00:01:27
This has been an incredible year for us and the podcasts and you guys are just the best ever and we're so available for you.
00:01:36
And in a year that has been tough for so many reasons, like doing this is such a bright spot and like being in community, community with all of you has like actually just been such a highlight,
00:01:51
um, earnestly, I'm getting a little too real here.
00:01:56
But it is really nice and it's nice to get to this with you, Jenna, you too, Kevin.
00:02:01
I cannot believe we're almost in 2025.
00:02:05
It is very fast.
00:02:07
Oh God.
00:02:08
Very, very fast.
00:02:10
What has been your favorite memory from this year, Kevin?
00:02:13
I got to do theater for the first time.
00:02:16
So doing spelling be like that whole experience was really great.
00:02:21
Meeting all those wonderful people who I did the show with.
00:02:25
Also I took a trip to Europe and saw one of my friend, our friend Andrea get married.
00:02:31
And that was also really great and magical.
00:02:33
So two highlights.
00:02:34
What about you?
00:02:35
Oh my gosh.
00:02:36
And this year has been a whirlwind, maybe growing a human.
00:02:41
Yeah, I mean, I think that a big part of it was being pregnant throughout most of this year.
00:02:50
And watching Emma grow into a two and a half year old has been just crazy.
00:02:57
She's like a full blown kid at this point now and it's just, it's very wild.
00:03:02
She started school.
00:03:04
So I feel like we were just getting into the groove of like a new phase of her life.
00:03:09
And that was really really fun and work kind of like took aside from the podcast, like took a back seat, but I was like, you know what, I'll, I'll take it.
00:03:17
I'll, I'll take this year and I'll take it for what it is.
00:03:20
So I think, um, yeah, the pregnancy in a lot of personal journey.
00:03:25
Yeah.
00:03:26
It's going through this year.
00:03:28
Important real life things you've been doing, you know?
00:03:32
Thanks.
00:03:33
Yeah, trying to grow and and teach tiny humans to be good in this world, you know?
00:03:38
Yeah.
00:03:39
I mean, no small feet.
00:03:40
Good God.
00:03:41
Ooh.
00:03:42
What are you looking forward to in 2025?
00:03:47
Oh, um, I think it's going to be a really weird year to start, obviously, for specific reasons.
00:03:58
I hope for myself to find some peace.
00:04:01
Are you okay, Jenna?
00:04:05
No, I just, I hope to find some peace in all of the hubbub and chaos that I think will might ensue that we might encounter in the first half of the year.
00:04:17
Like there's a lot of stuff we know is coming and a lot of unknowns and a lot of scary things that could be happening.
00:04:23
And I'm just trying to like, for my personal self find some peace in that, um, smart.
00:04:31
And being able to like, we've been here before, we've done this before.
00:04:37
And so how do I filter out what is needed and what's not and what's important and what to fight for and what to not and when to take a back seat and went to not, you know,
00:04:47
just like finding that balance.
00:04:50
Um, I am excited for this, the rest of this podcast.
00:04:54
And I would love to see what people want to hear from us as well in terms of the podcast after season five and six.
00:05:02
So please write in and tell us that because that will be really interesting and fun to kind of explore.
00:05:09
Yeah.
00:05:10
Um, yeah, I just like a lot of unknowns in always.
00:05:14
So just some peace.
00:05:18
I would like to be able to find more ways for us to work together.
00:05:23
Great.
00:05:24
You know, I love that.
00:05:25
Mm-hmm.
00:05:26
And get Amber involved.
00:05:27
I think.
00:05:28
Love it.
00:05:29
I'm here for it.
00:05:31
We should figure that out.
00:05:32
Great.
00:05:33
Let's do it.
00:05:34
You've read so many books this year, Kevin is yet not as many as I planned on.
00:05:40
This was a slower year for me than last year.
00:05:42
Okay.
00:05:43
But like, what slow?
00:05:44
Because I think I read two books this year.
00:05:45
So like, what's slow?
00:05:46
Yeah, but as you said, Jenna, you're raising a human and growing another human, right?
00:05:54
I have a dog in a cat, you know, still people.
00:05:59
It takes them effort to pick up a book sometimes, I think.
00:06:02
I think by the end of this year, I will be at technically like maybe 21 books.
00:06:09
Oh, that's a lot of books.
00:06:12
Now, last year was at 30, okay, but that's a lot of books.
00:06:16
My goal was 36 this year.
00:06:18
That's a lot of books.
00:06:20
It is.
00:06:21
I'm like, let me get through one, literally, let me get through one.
00:06:25
There.
00:06:26
And I've hit some slumps this year as well.
00:06:28
Like I've hit some reading slumps or like, fair enough.
00:06:31
I've, it's probably the most did not finish year for me.
00:06:36
So like, I need to go back and finish some books.
00:06:39
I've gotten better at like, I'm not feeling right now.
00:06:41
I'm going to put it down.
00:06:42
Love that.
00:06:43
That's great.
00:06:44
I love that.
00:06:45
I've never, I've resisted that feeling for a really long time.
00:06:49
And so I did that.
00:06:50
But I have read some great books this year.
00:06:52
Great.
00:06:53
Great.
00:06:54
For anybody listening who cares about book recommendations, I'll give you a little highlight.
00:07:05
Wouldn't say I'm like the biggest fantasy reader.
00:07:07
However, probably my current favorite writer, RF Kuang, she's stupidly brilliant.
00:07:17
She's so smart.
00:07:20
She wrote the poppy word trilogy, which I just started.
00:07:23
So I read the first book of that this year.
00:07:25
I also read Babel, which is so good, which is being adapted.
00:07:30
She's coming up with another book.
00:07:31
She wrote yellow face.
00:07:32
She's unbelievable.
00:07:35
So I'm trying to get through all of her things.
00:07:36
Also, at the start of the year, I read Henry Henry by Alan Bratton and so good, like a modern retelling of Shakespeare's Henry the Fifth,
00:07:50
I think, and it's a queer and just, it's very good.
00:07:56
And also, I mean, the book of the year, Barnes and Noble Agrees, James by Percival Everett, it, like, is a retelling of Huckleberry Finn.
00:08:08
That's fun.
00:08:10
From the perspective of Jim, the slave, and it's just, it's great.
00:08:15
So so good.
00:08:17
So those are some highlights from the year.
00:08:19
Great.
00:08:20
Did you watch a lot of TV this year?
00:08:22
Like, we did.
00:08:23
We watched a lot of TV this year.
00:08:25
So do you have recommendations like highlights from this past year?
00:08:29
So we love the diplomat and we just started season two.
00:08:33
Diplomat is like my favorite show and the diplomat came back this year and I watched the entire second season in one day.
00:08:39
Let me know everything you think about it.
00:08:41
The perfect couple.
00:08:44
We watched obviously nobody wants this.
00:08:48
We watched Presumed Innocent.
00:08:51
Love that one.
00:08:53
That one is a really great one.
00:08:56
And the ending was not what we expected at all, so we were very happy with that.
00:09:01
Is that the Jake Jones show?
00:09:02
Mm hmm.
00:09:03
Yeah.
00:09:04
I need to watch that.
00:09:05
Let's watch Bad Monkey.
00:09:08
What is Bad Monkey?
00:09:09
Vince Vaughan on Apple TV.
00:09:12
We just watched Disclaimer.
00:09:14
We really enjoyed that one.
00:09:16
Did you?
00:09:17
Yeah.
00:09:18
Yeah.
00:09:19
Is it with Kaplan Shep?
00:09:20
Yeah.
00:09:21
Because I've wanted to call on to that show, right?
00:09:24
And it's gotten, it's, you know, it's gotten, I've heard nothing but terrible.
00:09:27
No, I mean, it's, it's totally, it's not an easy watch.
00:09:31
I wouldn't say it's easy.
00:09:32
It's quite dark.
00:09:33
Yeah.
00:09:34
It never really lost me at any point.
00:09:38
And again, like a fun little twist.
00:09:42
We watched the brother son this year.
00:09:44
Yeah.
00:09:45
We've been really good at rewatching new things this year because usually we're rewatcher family because when you have small children at the end of the night, it's very easy to like want to just turn your brain off.
00:09:58
So you watch something that you know very, very well.
00:10:01
We have watched a lot this year of new content that we've tried to be more mindful of like doing things that are not just like sitting there and like stewing.
00:10:14
I feel like this has been a really slow TV year for me.
00:10:17
Oh, interesting.
00:10:18
Which is, we are normally a watcher lot, but I think what also happens is because I'll watch something really quickly.
00:10:23
I'll binge it.
00:10:24
Then I forgot that I watched it.
00:10:26
Like I forgot, like I watched three body problem on Netflix and I forgot that I did.
00:10:32
It was this huge show and like that was really fun.
00:10:36
Yeah.
00:10:38
What are you doing for New Year's this year?
00:10:39
You know what?
00:10:40
Normally, like last year I went to Brazil, I normally go on a trip.
00:10:44
This year, I'm completely waiting in it.
00:10:47
I have no idea.
00:10:49
I love that.
00:10:50
I didn't really feel like going anywhere.
00:10:53
I was gone a lot this year.
00:10:54
I'm going to be gone a bit next year.
00:10:58
And so I'm just trying to like sit my ass at home for a little bit.
00:11:02
So maybe he'll do nothing.
00:11:03
And that'll be nice.
00:11:04
I respect that.
00:11:05
Yeah.
00:11:06
Last year, Megan, Megan Doyle and her husband Thomas came over and they left it like 1145.
00:11:13
And we went to bed.
00:11:14
We all went to bed.
00:11:16
And this year, obviously, we have a baby.
00:11:19
So there's nothing happening.
00:11:22
I'll come leave you things on your doorstep.
00:11:24
Oh, thanks.
00:11:25
I appreciate that.
00:11:26
Yeah.
00:11:27
I'll leave you like treats.
00:11:28
Oh, that's so sweet.
00:11:29
But I'm okay with that.
00:11:30
You know what?
00:11:31
New Year's is like one of those holidays that like some years, you just, you blow it out and some years, you're just, you're just cozy at home and there's nothing wrong with that.
00:11:38
Yeah.
00:11:39
I think I'm one year on when you're off now.
00:11:41
Yeah.
00:11:42
I respect that.
00:11:43
I respect that one.
00:11:44
Well, we hope you all out there listening.
