About the Guest
Rabbi Debra Hachen
Rabbi Debra Hachen (HUC-JIR ’80) is Rabbi Emerita of Congregation B’nai Shalom in Massachusetts and served two other congregations before retiring to California in 2017. The daughter and great granddaughter of Reform rabbis, she was among the first women rabbis in the Reform movement. During her active rabbinate she was known for heartfelt worship services and teachings that wove together Jewish texts and modern life experiences. She served on many committees within the Reform movement and continues to be active in the Central Conference of American Rabbis and the Women’s Rabbinic Network. Her essay and poetry on caregiving for a spouse with dementia were published by the Central Conference of American Rabbis, one in The Sacred Struggle (2025) and the other in The Reform Jewish Quarterly, Summer 2025. She loves reading science fiction, playing bridge, travel, and making her six young grandchildren laugh.
