Som 10-årig faldt Helle Helle over Tove Ditlevsens »Pigesind« i sin mors bogreol. Bagefter begyndte hendes dansklærer at klage over, at hendes stile var blevet for »pessimistiske«. Siden har hun lært at sætte kolon af Herman Bang og skifte synsvinkel af Virginia Woolf.
