Holiday Waste Management Reminder: What Goes in the Yellow Bin and More!As the holiday season kicks into high gear in the Australian Capital Territory, its crucial to know what can and cant go in the yellow bin. City services minister Tara Cheyne has shared a list of acceptable items, such as Christmas cards, wrapping paper, cardboard boxes, and recyclable containers. However, plastic bags, toys, decorations, food waste, and other non-recyclables should be avoided. For those who find their bins overflowing, free drop-off centers in various suburbs will be open around the clock every day, including Christmas Day, for cans, paper, cardboard, and plastic food containers. With warmer weather leading to more drink containers, Container Deposit Scheme depots will extend their hours to accommodate the increased volume. Return eligible bottles and cans for a ten-cent refund each to keep the recycling process smooth. For other waste, Mugga Lane and Mitchell resource centers will remain open every day except Christmas. Bin collections scheduled for Christmas Day will be rescheduled to Saturday, December 27th, in certain suburbs. All other pickups, including Boxing Day, New Years Eve, and New Years Day, will proceed as normal.By following these guidelines, residents can ensure a smooth and manageable waste disposal process during the holiday season.
