Home Vaccinations Pilot: Boosting Childhood Immunity
Update: 2026-01-01
Description
Starting mid-January, health visitors in England will vaccinate children at home as part of a new government pilot scheme worth two million pounds. This initiative aims to address barriers like lack of local doctor, travel costs, childcare issues, and language problems, targeting families whove slipped through the cracks. Last year, not a single childhood vaccine in England hit the ninety-five percent target needed for herd immunity, with rates for measles, mumps, rubella, and others dipping to lows not seen in over a decade. From January second, all children will get a new MMRV vaccine on the NHS for the first time, covering measles, mumps, rubella, and chickenpox too. This year-long trial could go nationwide by 2027 if it works, helping close health gaps and build trust where its needed most.
