This is Brock & Song on Seattle Sports.
00:00:31
Now here are your hosts.
00:00:32
Brock, you are and Mike Song.
00:00:37
Alright, this texture says McDonough was the voice of your youth.
00:00:41
Aren't you guys pretty much the same age, was he calling games when he was 10?
00:00:46
Alright, I'm 46.
00:00:48
Sean McDonough's 62.
00:00:51
Like 16 years older though.
00:00:54
Okay, I wasn't like two when he's like Lyle saying he grew up listening to us all.
00:00:59
Yeah, pretty close.
00:01:00
I mean, we talked about that before you came on.
00:01:04
I mean, close, yes.
00:01:06
He's, yeah, 16 years older.
00:01:08
I mean, he did start calling games when he was super young.
00:01:10
I mean, that's for sure.
00:01:12
What do you know what I'm willing to see?
00:01:14
He was, it was four years after he graduated Syracuse that he started doing Redsox games.
00:01:19
So that was, wow.
00:01:20
He was 26.
00:01:21
So I was 10.
00:01:23
So as I said, he was the voice of my youth.
00:01:25
That's right around when I got super into watching baseball.
00:01:28
It was right when Sean was taken over doing the games on Channel 38 in Boston.
00:01:32
It's actually not that far off from me saying, "Are you still listening to the show?"
00:01:36
Yeah, I'm 10 years old.
00:01:38
That's, that's, you know.
00:01:39
And by the way, I'm willing to see.
00:01:40
At the beginning of the show when you were still asleep, Lyle.
00:01:42
Yeah, exactly.
00:01:43
Lyle's asleep on his feet.
00:01:46
He didn't say anything then.
00:01:47
For the first, for the first like hour of the show, Lyle's essentially asleep in the other room.
00:01:54
He's here in person, but not in spirit.
00:01:57
It's a different.
00:01:59
All right.
00:02:00
Well, anyway, huge, huge, huge.
00:02:04
I'm willing to see my name being first.
00:02:06
If he wants to jump on every week with us.
00:02:08
Absolutely.
00:02:08
Sean Brock and Salkshow.
00:02:10
So Sean had a show.
00:02:11
So, so I'll tell you the quick story.
00:02:13
Then we can get into this Aaron Rodgers stupidity, but the very, very brief story in some very small way.
00:02:20
Sean did play a part in me getting into this business.
00:02:24
So W E I was the, you know, long time legendary only sports station in Boston.
00:02:30
And in the maybe late 90s, early 2000s, they wanted somebody wanted to build a competitor to that.
00:02:39
So they started 15 10 the zone in Boston.
00:02:43
It was a sporting news radio affiliate.
00:02:46
And it had a terrible signal.
00:02:47
Like you couldn't really hear it, but they did too.
00:02:50
They basically did two big things or three big things right at the beginning.
00:02:54
They signed the Celtics who were awful at that point.
00:02:56
And they signed Sean McDonough to do an afternoon show called the McDonough group.
00:03:01
And Sean, I think they might have also signed any element who sort of like the legendary figure in in Boston sports radio in any event.
00:03:09
They signed McDonough and he does the McDonough group.
00:03:11
And it was really good.
00:03:12
And at the very beginning, the ratings were actually pretty good, but he was traveling all the time and doing all of his play by play.
00:03:18
And so it was one of those things where the McDonough group didn't always have Sean McDonough on it.
00:03:23
And they didn't last with the same level of popularity.
00:03:26
And then nobody could hear the station because the signal was bad and the Celtics were bad.
00:03:29
And it all fell apart.
00:03:31
Yeah.
00:03:32
But I started listening to that station while I lived in LA because they were streaming live nationally, whereas I was not.
00:03:40
And so I first listened to Sean and then eventually started listening to Ryan Rassillo, who came into a do afternoons there before he had made it nationally.
00:03:50
And when I first wanted to get into the business, Rassillo was the person I got in touch with and said, hey, can you help me?
00:03:56
And that was the station I interned at, which allowed me to kind of build a demo tape and stuff.
00:04:01
So Sean himself didn't have anything to do to be getting into the business, but he has his, what he did at that radio station and the fact that he ended up leaving and the radio station started to crumble allowed me an opportunity to work in an awful radio station.
00:04:14
So there you go.
00:04:15
Did Rassillo used to give a bunch of life advice on the air back then?
00:04:18
Did he?
00:04:18
He did.
00:04:19
And first, let me tell you, Ryan Rassillo doing a radio, local radio show on a station that nobody could hear when he was like in his 20s was about as good as I've ever heard radio.
00:04:30
He was unfreaking believable.
00:04:33
He was awesome.
00:04:34
The thing I probably remember him saying most, just because it for that point in my life just cracked me up was the idea of a Sunday night girlfriend.
00:04:42
And he was like, like, if you're a guy and you've been hanging out with your buddies all weekend, you're drinking Friday night, go to the bars on Saturday.
00:04:49
But then it's Sunday and like some of those guys have girlfriends, I just want to like, you know, watch HBO with and stuff.
00:04:54
Like, I'd like someone to just come to my house and be my Sunday night girlfriend.
00:04:56
No, nothing, nothing romantic.
00:04:59
Wow.
00:04:59
Just have somebody come and watch HBO with me on a Sunday night.
00:05:02
Sunday night.
00:05:03
Exactly.
00:05:04
And for whatever reason, I just thought it was a very funny bit that he had done at the time.
00:05:08
So yes, he did offer all sorts of real world.
00:05:12
It sounds like an air in Rodgers, kind of.
00:05:14
I don't know whether they're I don't know whether they're that similar.
00:05:17
I don't know whether I'm going to do that to Ryan.
00:05:19
No, I'm just saying that thought.
00:05:21
Oh, it falls around me.
00:05:23
Why don't I just have my own girlfriend?
00:05:25
I'm over on a Sunday night.
00:05:26
Yeah, that sounds pretty accurate.
00:05:28
Actually, anyway, yeah, Aaron Rodgers isn't going to be a ram, right?
00:05:33
That doesn't make any sense.
00:05:36
It doesn't make any sense from the race perspective.
00:05:38
LA kind of makes sense for him.
00:05:40
But not from the Rams, right?
00:05:42
Like, why would the Rams want Aaron Rodgers?
00:05:44
I could understand if they're trying to leverage and try to, you know, let let Stafford know they have other options.
00:05:50
Was this shift yesterday?
00:05:51
I was saying this.
00:05:52
Yeah, I've got both Calvard and Shepard.
00:05:54
Here's Shepard.
00:05:55
Matthew Stafford and the Rams, they've been trying to see if they can work out a new contract.
00:06:01
And if they can, Matthew Stafford will remain in Los Angeles and he'll remain a ram.
00:06:06
But he's doing $35 million this year.
00:06:08
None of it is guaranteed.
00:06:10
And it's up to those two sides to figure out a number that the Rams can live with that Matthew Stafford is more comfortable with that would enable him to continue and finish his NFL career with the Rams.
00:06:22
That's the goal, I believe, of both sides.
00:06:24
Now that could change very quickly.
00:06:27
If the Rams couldn't get a deal, that was Stafford.
00:06:30
If they decided to trade them a lot of ifs involved, then Aaron Rodgers in my mind would be thrilled with the idea of going to Los Angeles.
00:06:40
Yeah, I'm sure Aaron Rodgers would be thrilled.
00:06:42
But why would the Rams be thrilled?
00:06:44
Why would the Rams want that?
00:06:46
Well, Calvard says that's what they should do.
00:06:49
Take Stafford out.
00:06:51
Who are the pocket quarterbacks that you really think can win the Super Bowl over the next 10 years?
00:06:56
Goff and that's mostly because of the online really of Detroit.
00:07:00
The online is so suffocating.
00:07:01
It could it could move the ball against Philadelphia's D line.
00:07:04
The truth is I think and they're also looking at we don't wait.
00:07:07
Matt wants four years.
00:07:08
They give him two.
00:07:09
So I think it's they want Matt Stafford.
00:07:12
But I do think rent a quarterback for a year because next year's quarterback class is much better is Aaron Rodgers.
00:07:18
I think Aaron, if you go to Aaron's last 10 games in New York with at that point, arguably the worst coaching staff not in Chicago in the league.
00:07:27
It was the worst coaching staff.
00:07:29
And he put up like really decent numbers.
00:07:33
The last 10 games might take is with McVey.
00:07:37
If you could hold those numbers for a year, two year deal, we draft a quarterback.
00:07:42
And I also think Aaron has been humbled.
00:07:44
I think I think he'd come with a Malibu and you're like, oh, what's it I'm taking.
00:07:49
He thinks Aaron's been humbled.
00:07:52
What evidence do we have?
00:07:54
What?
00:07:54
I've heard I love Calvard as you know.
00:07:57
I've heard a lot of insane takes over the years.
00:07:59
That's the most insane thing I think I've ever heard anyone say.
00:08:02
What evidence is there at all that Aaron Rodgers has been humbled?
00:08:07
Yeah, not strong.
00:08:11
At least publicly not not strong evidence humbled.
00:08:15
I mean, if you're the Rams, you get him dirt cheap kind of like the Steelers got Russell dirt cheap.
00:08:21
Right.
00:08:22
He could still throw a football.
00:08:24
Doesn't move particularly well.
00:08:26
And would McVey look at this as like the ultimate project test like if I get this guy and on by the way, because we don't have really any money tied to him,
00:08:37
we and if he starts acting out, we're just done.
00:08:40
We just move on.
00:08:40
The only way this makes sense is if what Calvard said at the beginning is truly their goal to get a quarterback in the following years draft and they want to stink and have Aaron Rodgers tear apart their organization and then blame him for the whole thing and just move on at the end of it.
00:08:54
But I don't see how Aaron Rodgers at this stage is a good thing for your organization is a good thing for your team.
00:09:01
I mean, look it be great for us.
00:09:03
Like cool as a sea ox fan.
00:09:05
By all means, take Aaron Rodgers and screw up your own organization.
00:09:09
But why would anybody want Aaron Rodgers right now?
00:09:12
Yeah.
00:09:13
I think they would much rather have Jimmy Garoppolo who they had for a year.
00:09:16
Absolutely.
00:09:17
They rehab two played great.
00:09:19
By the way, he played better against the CEO defense in the second half of the season than anybody did.
00:09:24
So yeah, that feels again like I'd rather have Russell Wilson than Aaron Rodgers.
00:09:28
Like I don't even think it's close.
00:09:31
At this point, I wouldn't touch Aaron Rodgers with a 10 foot pull.

Need to know.
00:11:24
15 minutes past every hour with Brock and Salk.
00:11:28
Here's what you need to know.
00:11:30
Up first.
00:11:31
Why do we even have to do a show after Sean McDonald shouldn't it just be over when he's done?
00:11:36
What other reason is there for us to keep going?
00:11:38
We have a lot of other stuff to talk about today.
00:11:41
Brock won and we mentioned this a few times.
00:11:44
Donovan Salano, not at Mariners camp as expected, having visa issues, not necessarily uncommon.
00:11:51
This does happen at times, but usually with younger players, remember years ago when we got to take a little BP and we got to use a bat of a player.
00:12:02
I have that bat at home.
00:12:02
I think I do, too.
00:12:03
And I don't think that guy ever made it.
00:12:04
So usually it's younger players.
00:12:08
I'm not going to find that that.
00:12:11
Usually it's younger, but not 38 year olds that have been in the league for like seven, but yeah, he's been in the league 11 years, a little surprising to see him have these issues.
00:12:19
I supposed to be here though.
00:12:21
Should be taking care of anybody.
00:12:22
I don't know.
00:12:24
I'm not blaming anybody.
00:12:25
I'm just saying that there's an issue.
00:12:27
You know what?
00:12:29
You're making my life hard today.
00:12:31
How dare you?
00:12:32
I'm just going to play Julio Rodriguez.
00:12:34
Sound and shut up really excited.
00:12:35
You know, like the beginning of the year was it is what it is.
00:12:38
You know, but I feel like definitely took with me like the last six weeks, what we did as a team, what we did as an organization and everything, you know, just kind of how we continue to push forward.
00:12:49
We're right there again.
00:12:50
So I definitely, I definitely took that those last six weeks with me into my offseason kind of career to try to carry into this year.
00:12:57
I think we have a really talented group.
00:12:59
You know, maybe a lot of people don't want to see like that, but like that's kind of their opinion.
00:13:03
And like I don't really personally don't really care about that.
00:13:06
And I just think that this group has what it takes.
00:13:08
And I feel like, you know, I think that's something that will continue to be focused, continue to be fighting as a team.
00:13:14
And I think that's the only way that we're going to get through.
00:13:18
Man, this team has shown some significant upside itself for six weeks.
00:13:21
A couple of years ago, right after the All-Strike, remember that August?
00:13:25
That kind of six week stretch.
00:13:27
Right?
00:13:28
That last six week stretch at the end of last season.
00:13:30
This team has shown those bursts.
00:13:32
The problem and the challenge has been the first six weeks of a season.
00:13:35
Right?
00:13:36
It has been so problematic for so many of their difference makers, Julio right at the top of the list.
00:13:41
All three years, those first six weeks coming out the gate.
00:13:44
They've been a real challenge.
00:13:46
I know we're talking 162 and it's 162 battles and 162 battles.
00:13:50
But man, if you're going to lean in the last six weeks of the season, how you start these first six weeks?
00:13:56
Yeah, the other thing that I take from that is, look, Julio didn't have to be positive about them not doing much this off season.
00:14:05
He could have come in and been like, yeah, I mean, like it would have been nice if we had added more.
00:14:10
He didn't.
00:14:11
I don't know what he thinks in his heart.
00:14:14
I don't know that.
00:14:15
That had been so divisive though.
00:14:17
It would have been, but we've seen that before from players who were just like, yeah, I'm a little, yes, there's maybe, well, he didn't add it.
00:14:24
He didn't do that at all.
00:14:25
And I don't know what he truly believes.
00:14:28
I'll believe him and take him for face value.
00:14:30
But the fact that he is not saying anything negative and is telling that line, I think, is a wonderful thing and speaks very highly of Dan and what he's done to kind of get this group moving in the right direction to start this season.
00:14:43
So kudos to Julio, kudos to Dan.
00:14:45
And yeah, I think that's all very good news for the Mariners.
00:14:49
He was the second thing you need to know.
00:14:54
But yesterday we were saying that we would have some very good news today to report.
00:14:59
And we do.
00:15:00
Daniel Jeremiah is going to continue to join us for six more shows leading up to the draft.
00:15:06
So that's basically through April, basically the month of April.
00:15:10
But the five shows leading up to the draft and the one Wednesday after the draft, we will all get to spend with DJ awesome.
00:15:17
And he'll continue to sharpen that pencil from mock one to mock two to mock three to mock four and all of them.
00:15:23
And so we finally get to draft day in mock 2.0 was a little different.
00:15:28
That's because in, you know, over the last month or so, DJ has just been raving about the big guy, the big guy that from Michigan that Kenneth Grant, KG going to be there going to get more down the road.
00:15:40
Well, unfortunately, he was there at 18 in the first mock.
00:15:43
Not this time.
00:15:45
No, he had him go number 16 to Arizona.
00:15:47
Yeah.
00:15:48
So instead, the sea ox turned to their offensive line Seattle press the interior of the offensive line.
00:15:54
I wish Gray's able to clone himself.
00:15:56
But he takes care of one of those positions.
00:15:58
So essentially saying, look, they need three new people in the interior of the offensive line.
00:16:05
And he could be one of them six, five, three, 16 physical big frame.
00:16:10
So I think there's some thought I saw this from Lanzerline that he could add height or not height, but wait and strength to to that frame.
00:16:17
And then also that there's a possibility he could end up as a center.
00:16:22
Yeah.
00:16:22
And he was definitely the talk of the senior ball.
00:16:24
He was, I think, voted practice player of the week.
00:16:27
He was esteemed by his peers and the other side of the ball every day down there in mobile, mobile.
00:16:33
He just had his way.
00:16:34
And that was it.
00:16:35
Give me a great on that.
00:16:36
If they draft grace able at number 18, your grade will be.
00:16:40
Oh, that's an A grade.
00:16:41
That's an A grade.
00:16:43
Yeah.
00:16:43
That's identifying your absolute biggest need and efficiency.
00:16:46
And a guy that played it a really really high level who have, you know, things to do and room the grow.
00:16:51
But he's not a guard that they've drafted in the mid rounds and the late rounds that's had some issues.
00:16:55
There's not really issues.
00:16:56
The frame is great.
00:16:57
Yeah.
00:16:57
So this isn't great.
00:16:58
The bend is great.
00:16:59
The football IQ is really high.
00:17:01
Yeah.
00:17:01
That would be, that'd be a really nice.
00:17:03
Was Kenneth Grant and also Kenneth Grant was an A2.
00:17:06
Okay.
00:17:07
So both would have been a grades for this.
00:17:08
Seahawks, by the way, yesterday made it official.
00:17:11
They hired run game specialist Justin Aughton and announced the signing of Rick Denison as a run game coordinator.
00:17:18
So they get a specialist.
00:17:19
They got a coordinator.
00:17:20
They got an analyst.
00:17:21
They got everybody.
00:17:22
They're all lined up to make sure that this run game works this year.
00:17:25
Here's the third day you need to know great to talk some hockey with with Sean McDonough as we get ready for tomorrow night US and Canada in the finals of the four nations.
00:17:38
We did get a little bits of news today.
00:17:41
It looks like Austin Matthews practice for the US team as did Matthew Kachuk, no sign of Brady Kachuk yet.
00:17:47
And then yeah, there's questions as to whether or not Quinn Hughes is going to be able to play as we going to Boston to be there for this whole thing.
00:17:56
We'll find out as for the crack and they get back underway on Saturday.
00:18:01
And it looks like Jordan Everly should be able to return when they play in Florida.
00:18:06
He's been out for quite some time.
00:18:08
Trade deadlines approaching.
00:18:11
It doesn't look like the crack and are in it.
00:18:13
Linda Cohn on with bump and Stacey yesterday said, yeah, they're going to get some calls.
00:18:17
It's going to be interesting to see the moves.
00:18:19
If any, Ron Francis makes because you know, there are teams calling playoff teams that are calling for some of these players on the crack and I mentioned Jared McCann.
00:18:30
He would make a nice fit.
00:18:32
I'm going to play off contender adding tremendous depth to a forward group.
00:18:37
So I'm not in that room with Ron Francis, but I bet you he's been getting calls on that guy as well as Brandon Taniv, who's an agitator, who's his kind of game really works well in the postseason.
00:18:49
So I think it's an interesting conversation, Brock.
00:18:52
Taniv.
00:18:52
Yeah, you could trade Brandon Taniv.
00:18:55
You're not going to get much back for him.
00:18:57
You can trade all over Bjorks strand who I think would probably be a beneficial to a challenge to a team that's in contention.
00:19:04
I don't I like his game and I think it's a helpful style for a championship team, but I don't think you get a ton for all of our Bjorks strand.
00:19:11
Of anyone on your team, if you want to get back something significant, it's Jared McCann.
00:19:16
Are you willing to do that with a guy who's really been arguably your best player for the history of your organization?
00:19:24
Is that going to be Ron Francis's call?
00:19:25
Fair question.
00:19:27
I think there's a lot of questions.
00:19:29
I think that's a very, very fair question you ask.
00:19:32
That is everything you need to know quarter past every hour here on the Brock and Salk show.
00:19:37
Elco, Elco right there on bump and stays.
00:19:40
Dude, she's the best.
00:19:41
She's so fun.
00:19:42
I love her.
00:19:42
You know, she started before maybe Lyle, you know, born, what year were you born, Lyle?
00:19:46
2010.
00:19:49
Yeah.
00:19:49
Well, yeah.
00:19:50
What's that?
00:19:51
What was?
00:19:51
Now, 1997.
00:19:53
Okay, she proceeded to you.
00:19:55
She was a Cairo.
00:19:56
Cairo 7 is a member coming to Pialip, do a story on my dad way back in the day.
00:20:01
She was kind of like Chris Egan did, you know, does all the high school story.
00:20:05
Isn't there a picture of her in the Seahawks press room?
00:20:08
Oh, yeah.
00:20:09
Right.
00:20:09
Well, they've got all the old press pictures and stuff.
00:20:12
I'm pretty sure there's a Linda Cone picture in there.
00:20:15
Elco, a Cairo.
00:20:15
When she was in Cairo.
00:20:17
Yeah.
00:20:17
Pretty cool.
00:20:18
All right.
00:20:18
We are just 20 minutes away from my new favorite segment, Trash Takes, where Brock and Mora and Lyle will offer their trashiest takes of the week.

Shannon Dreyer is heading down to Peoria today, so our Mariners reporter will be on the scene.
00:22:46
I think we're going to talk to Shannon Friday morning.
00:22:49
We'll give her kind of tomorrow to get her bearings and all that and then we will have Shannon on the show Friday morning and get her initial sense of what she's seeing and feeling down in Peoria.
00:23:00
And then we will go join her next week.
00:23:03
Always love it.
00:23:04
It's my favorite week of the year for sure.
00:23:06
Our chance to just be there and be around the game and be around the players.
00:23:10
And you know, it has been a frustrating offseason for a lot of people understandably.
00:23:15
At some point, though, you get down there, you get around the team and a lot of that does go away because for all 30 teams, they think they've got an opportunity and they want to try to most of the 30 teams.
00:23:30
I think the players do think that way.
00:23:33
I really do.
00:23:33
The fans may not, and we may all look at it and say the Dodgers and meds and a couple other teams Yankees have just overspent to such an extent that, you know, no one else has a shot.
00:23:42
I don't think the players can think that way.
00:23:46
Okay, well, I'm going to send you over to White Sox Camp then.
00:23:48
All right.
00:23:48
There might be a couple of teams where there's just it's ridiculous.
00:23:53
But come on, don't you, don't you think that that for 25 teams in the league at the very least, they enter spring training believing they have a shot to at least go to the playoffs.
00:24:02
And if you get to the playoffs, who knows what you can do in a short series, even against the Dodgers Yankees or meds and injuries and everything else that pops up.
00:24:10
So I really, yes, all right, fine.
00:24:12
A couple of teams are not going to feel any sense of optimism.
00:24:17
But I think most of the players that show up at spring training really truly feel like if things go the right way, their team has a shot to do something special.
00:24:28
And and I would expect that the players and mariners camp feel exactly the same way.
00:24:33
And I thought it was good news that if they don't feel that way, they're certainly not saying so cows never been shy about giving his opinion before JP's never been shy about giving his opinion.
00:24:44
Julio, I don't think a shy about giving his opinion.
00:24:47
And we haven't heard anything of that ilk come out at all.
00:24:50
But that's usually been the end of the season.
00:24:53
That's usually the end of the marathon.
00:24:54
It's truly usually the beginning of the season.
00:24:57
Something has changed from the season before this season.
00:25:00
There really has been almost no change other than the Justin Turner for Donovan Salano swap.
00:25:05
So there really has not been much change to talk about.
00:25:09
And so, yeah, I think it's, I think that's a good sign.
00:25:13
It doesn't mean this team's now going to be a world series contender.
00:25:16
We'll see.
00:25:17
But I do think it's a good sign that there's not any of that.
00:25:20
There's no negative energy emanating from the organization, from the players, at least to start the season.
00:25:27
I think that's a good first sign.
00:25:29
And then, yeah, sorry, go ahead.
00:25:30
Well, I'm just going to say outside of Boston, that's against kind of the way I think most other organizations also operate, right?
00:25:37
It's just that that's kind of, I don't know, man, every once in a while.
00:25:41
Someone will come into camp once in a while.
00:25:43
The end is bonnet every once in a while.
00:25:46
And given, I think the mood of the fan base, it wouldn't have been like the most shocking thing in the world.
00:25:52
If the mood of some of the players was a little antsy heading into spring training, I was watching for it.
00:25:58
I at least was curious to see who will actually in along these lines.
00:26:02
And you did some X factors yesterday.
00:26:03
And he's one of your X factors as well.
00:26:05
You know, who might, who might be one of the better barometers for this is actually a Rosarena.
00:26:12
And not even with words, because I don't think he's a big talker.
00:26:15
I don't think so.
00:26:16
He's that's not going to happen.
00:26:18
He's not going to be Tristan Cassis.
00:26:19
He's not going to be Devers.
00:26:20
He's not going to necessarily do that.
00:26:23
But just buy in just personality.
00:26:25
Just as he happy Randy.
00:26:27
Is he enjoying being in Seattle?
00:26:29
You know, last year was quite a shake up.
00:26:31
Quite a big move.
00:26:32
Pretty beloved out there.
00:26:33
He had Randy land out there in Tampa Bay.
00:26:35
And I think there were stretches salt where you felt like man, he just does not feel that engage does not look like he's having much fun at all.
00:26:43
I think he'll be a pretty good gauge for this.
00:26:46
I feel good about it, by the way.
00:26:49
Like I have all the players on this team.
00:26:51
He's the one I'm hoping kind of becomes my favorite because I really I'm prone to liking Randy Rosarena.
00:26:59
I liked him when he was in Tampa.
00:27:01
I think he's an interesting character.
00:27:03
He plays the game with player and I think with a lot of passion.
00:27:07
And I love that about him.
00:27:09
I mean, what he did in the world series a few years ago was like you couldn't take your eyes off of him.
00:27:13
He was one of those players where you're like, okay, this guy could become just a legit star and exactly what baseball needed.
00:27:20
And it hasn't necessarily gone that way.
00:27:23
But I will I will he can be mercurial keeping my piranha.
00:27:27
I agree.
00:27:27
Which is why I'm going to give you a call and cowherd take.
00:27:31
Not as silly as what did he say that Aaron Rodgers has humbled himself.
00:27:34
He's been humbled.
00:27:35
That's ridiculous.
00:27:36
No, he has been humbled.
00:27:37
He has been so absurd.
00:27:38
And we'll give you that.
00:27:40
But this is a cowherd style takes and he likes to look at people's hats and headgear and make a decision on what kind of a leader.
00:27:46
They'll be in everything else.
00:27:48
Okay.
00:27:48
I am going to take Randy Rosarena's blonde hair as a positive sign that he's feeling happy, free spirited and ready to get to camp and have some fun.
00:27:59
It's an incredible reach on my part.
00:28:02
I totally understand that.
00:28:03
And if you don't believe me, I have no problems with you disagreeing with this because I am making this up.
00:28:09
But I'm going to take Randy's hair as a positive sign that he is feeling happier, feeling excited, feeling like he's at home excited to be around Julio and Victor in the outfield and just sort of that he's that he's given it a legit shot to have a great season this year.
00:28:29
That's a trash take.
00:28:30
Is that a bad take?
00:28:32
I don't know.
00:28:33
I think it's a good take.
00:28:34
Yeah.
00:28:35
And he can be himself that he can have a little fun.
00:28:38
Yeah.
00:28:38
You know, he is.
00:28:39
Yeah.
00:28:40
I think more curials probably the best word.
00:28:43
It's up and down.
00:28:44
Remember him at the All-Star Game on Seattle with cowboy boots and all the fun.
00:28:48
And you felt some of that fun last year.
00:28:50
And then he felt like, man, he looks like he's having a miserable time.
00:28:54
And there were kind of rumblings on both sides of that.
00:28:57
You know, who should be I would think a pretty strong X factor for him is not just the guy that he gets to play center field with.
00:29:05
I would also think another great resource for him at this stage of his career would be Edgar.
00:29:10
Right?
00:29:11
Of just a total and you know, I was watching some video yesterday.
00:29:15
I think Divas posted it of Edgar having a conversation with Julio during his BP stuff.
00:29:19
And you know, what talking about swing path and everything else that they were doing in Spanish and having a would look like a great conversation that you know, that Julio leans into him.
00:29:28
I would think at this stage, man, Randy's still looking for his payday, right?
00:29:32
It's going to make 12 million bucks.
00:29:35
He's got another year after this one in arbitration.
00:29:37
Still that's unbelievable.
00:29:39
It feels like he's been around for two decades.
00:29:42
It still hasn't hit, you know, free agency.
00:29:46
But these are some pretty big years for him production wise.
00:29:49
If he wants that payday at his age and stage, you kind of get him at a time where he's got to really produce and he's got to take that consistent step.
00:29:58
And man, the more we talk about it, was he your number one outside of Julio?
00:30:01
Was he your number one X factor?
00:30:02
Oh, yeah.
00:30:03
Yeah, I think you're right on that.
00:30:04
I think JP's fighting for that because of the past because of what, you know, when he was really good, how he elevates everybody else.
00:30:12
But man, having a one two with Julio, if Randy can do that and eat at eight, 50 OPS guy, I mean, I feel pretty strongly about that one to be honest.
00:30:21
I just I think just listen to his bat yesterday, like you watch these different kinds of different kinds of different kinds of noise.
00:30:27
And he is one of those.
00:30:28
And by the way, he can run right.
00:30:30
He's stolen as many as 32 bags in a season.
00:30:32
He's had 20 in each of his full seasons.
00:30:35
I mean, like he's a complete kind of a player who, who does a lot, by the way, led the American league last year with 22 hit by pitches.
00:30:44
Um, you know, those are those things that like kind of make him an interesting person.
00:30:52
And I heard, I think it was on bump and stacey that that that our guy Jason Churchill was saying, look, if you would start,
00:31:02
if you would have had Randy or Rosarena and Victor Robles for 162 games last year, instead of what was Randy 54 and Robles was like 75 80 something like that.
00:31:14
How different is your season?
00:31:16
What if you'd started with those guys instead of finishing?
00:31:19
I'm like, in order to believe in the 2000, 25 starts the way they started those things.
00:31:23
I mean, are they going to start the way they started in Tampa?
00:31:26
And where in Washington?
00:31:27
Yes.
00:31:28
Well, I don't know if expendable.
00:31:29
One was traded and obviously for good prospects.
00:31:32
So and one was just cut because both of those guys have, I don't know if you wanted their April of May in the in the little cows that they were in, but I get Jason's point and now you're going to hit the ground running.
00:31:43
All right.
00:31:43
Now you're all together.
00:31:45
Now there is continuity.
00:31:46
Now there is a man, there's not a lot of new moving pieces as Julio said.
00:31:50
And we've got a little more confidence and belief in one another here and then certainly people on the outside do.
00:31:55
And then I'll come back to that to that last point that I made earlier today about Dan and this messaging behind battling because I think it's interesting.
00:32:03
162 battles a year.
00:32:06
That was what Dan Wilson referred to the season as.
00:32:08
Really excited to get things started today officially.
00:32:11
And then just throughout spring training can begin to prepare for what's ahead, which is, you know, 162 battles ahead of us.
00:32:17
And then and then more beyond that, it's exciting to get that journey started.
00:32:21
And then I played you some sound earlier of Logan Gilbert, uh, concurring and using that same language that he had heard from Dan.
00:32:27
Can you, can you have 162 battles in today's day and age of baseball?
00:32:34
It's, to me, a phenomenal question.
00:32:36
But I think it depends what Dan means.
00:32:38
And this is why again, I'm excited to get down there to chat with him next week and ask him about this.
00:32:44
This is going to be among the first questions I have for him.
00:32:48
Is 162 battles a philosophy?
00:32:52
Is it about your men?
00:32:54
Everything really the word is mentality?
00:32:56
Or is that about a strategy for how to play the game?
00:33:01
If it's about a strategy, I think that's going to be really hard to pull off.
00:33:05
I'm not saying it's impossible.
00:33:06
And I'm really open to the idea that the game changes quickly.
00:33:10
And maybe you can do that.
00:33:11
Maybe the modern athlete is different.
00:33:13
And maybe you have to in order to try to make it work at T-Mobile.
00:33:17
Okay.
00:33:17
I'm open to that concept.
00:33:19
But history has told me and just my experience in the game has told me that a strategy of playing with 162 and 10s battles, it's just going to wear you out.
00:33:30
And it's just not going to be a success.
00:33:32
But a mentality that this team is always battling and we go into it with 162 times where you know, each of that matters and we're not going to throw them away like,
00:33:43
yeah, that can work and has worked and should work and should absolutely be at the forefront of the way teams are thinking.
00:33:50
You know, the two teams that come to my mind from that kind of strategy.
00:33:54
And certainly, some of this is prisoner of the present moment in time last year.
00:34:00
But it's Tampa and it's Detroit.
00:34:03
You know, I had a chance to catch up with AJ Hinch because of Benetti when we were doing a game was down there and in the Texas area and got to see him and just,
00:34:14
you know, I have a really cool lunch talking baseball and how much he strategized every single battle, every single game.
00:34:24
And it turned to your in Seattle, right?
00:34:26
It turned.
00:34:27
I mean, the whole thing started in Seattle.
00:34:29
But that was there, that was definitely their mindset and getting by insult and what that required of all 26 men on that roster.
00:34:37
It wasn't like, oh, yeah, you know, you're just kind of the last man on the bancher.
00:34:41
Yeah, you're the last arm in the bullpen.
00:34:42
No, no, no, no, no, every single game you're going to be engaged and we're going to move these pieces around, especially in our rotation or bullpen and everything, every single game to go find a way to battle it out of win.
00:34:54
And it takes him all the way to playoffs in a series win and, and, you know, like, wouldn't you say coming off of last season or in baseball today that they would epitomize that?
00:35:05
Yeah, I think that's probably fair.
00:35:08
Yeah, I mean, from what we saw, I mean, they just run their talent out.
00:35:11
They certainly didn't have talent.
00:35:12
They certainly didn't have payroll.
00:35:13
They certainly didn't have big boppers.
00:35:15
They certainly didn't have massive offense.
00:35:17
They certainly just couldn't roll out.
00:35:18
They had to find other ways to get it to work.
00:35:21
And, and it did.
00:35:22
Now, it's a stain.
00:35:25
Right, is that sustainable?
00:35:26
Can you do that over time?
00:35:27
It's great in the 60 game sprint.
00:35:29
An 80 game sprint.
00:35:30
Can you do it over 162?
00:35:32
Again, I think these are all really interesting fun questions.
00:35:34
And, and I think the answers to them will determine a lot of how the mariners work.
00:35:39
How do you now solve the answer to my friend's blown in the wind?
00:35:43
It is.
00:35:43
It always is.
00:35:44
Like, like, like trash takes.
00:35:45
Yeah, I don't know.
00:35:46
Those don't smell great.
00:35:47
Trash takes.
00:35:52
It's a bunch of trash.
00:35:53
Oh gosh, I thought it was straight on Brock and Saul.
00:35:56
That's a terrible take.
00:35:57
All right.
00:35:59
So, for those who don't remember trash takes every Wednesday, 945, to be followed by here's the thing tomorrow morning at 8 a.m.
00:36:09
So, you still have a little bit of time left if you want to leave us messages for here's the thing.
00:36:13
I think after today's show, there's going to be some.
00:36:15
I would hope.
00:36:16
Yeah, go download the app and leave us a message on whatever.
00:36:18
Yeah.
00:36:19
If you thought I was weird before.
00:36:21
Creepy, they said creepy.
00:36:24
Only they can hear you.
00:36:25
You're going to take that up with women and pop by the way.
00:36:28
Apparently they were having a conversation about you being creepy.
00:36:32
No.
00:36:32
Just watch the draft.
00:36:34
Just watch draft when I do the draft of Bob and Dave.
00:36:37
Just look at their faces every segment I do every time we go to break.
00:36:40
They're like, this guy's a whack adieu.
00:36:42
Did they think you're crazier than Bob and Stacy do?
00:36:44
No, I think so.
00:36:45
Yeah, probably.
00:36:46
Oh, yeah, absolutely.
00:36:47
Anyway, trash takes.
00:36:49
The three of you come up with something you heard this week that you think is a trash take.
00:36:54
And as the master of trash takes, I will judge which was the worst of them.
00:37:00
So, uh, I feel like more is it a disadvantage?
00:37:03
I'm going to speak for more here.
00:37:05
She's like an old lineman going up against a great athletic defensive lineman.
00:37:09
She's at a disadvantage because she's got a cold together our trash takes.
00:37:13
And I always send her mine and maybe mine is her first.
00:37:17
So more, I'm going to let you if I don't want to take your trash take.
00:37:21
No, just because I sent it.
00:37:23
You're like, while I had the same.
00:37:24
Okay.
00:37:25
All right, I'm going to go with.
00:37:27
I'm going to go.
00:37:28
Okay, then I'm going to go.
00:37:28
I'm going to go with the mayor.
00:37:30
Yeah, you're going to go with the mayor.
00:37:32
Yeah, I'm going to go with the mayor.
00:37:32
Announcement.
00:37:35
I'm just I'm just kidding.
00:37:39
Nice.
00:37:40
No, no, Bruce.
00:37:43
No, Bruce.
00:37:45
No, I feel like rabble.
00:37:48
No, no, Bruce.
00:37:50
No.
00:37:51
Got no, Bruce.
00:37:52
That's a fellow Husky.
00:37:54
That's a bow down.
00:37:55
That's a line.
00:37:56
Radio.
00:37:56
So for those that didn't see it.
00:37:58
Yeah, Bruce Hale pulled out a basketball at the state of the city function yesterday.
00:38:03
He's going to make a big announcement.
00:38:04
Big announcement.
00:38:05
He's going to pull out a basketball.
00:38:06
It looked like it had autographs on it.
00:38:08
And you can feel the anticipation.
00:38:09
Like what?
00:38:10
I know expansions have been talked about.
00:38:12
And then he just pumped fake them.
00:38:14
That's trashy.
00:38:16
No, thank you, Bruce.
00:38:18
No, trash.
00:38:20
Sorry, that's Bruce himself.
00:38:24
That's a, that's a pretty trash take from the mayor.
00:38:34
That's not really what you want to do.
00:38:37
So he's overwhelmed.
00:38:39
No, no kidding.
00:38:41
Did people think that he was actually about to make the announcement?
00:38:44
Yeah, I think so.
00:38:45
Wow.
00:38:45
I mean, he doesn't want to do that.
00:38:47
Right.
00:38:48
I mean, that's going to be done by a large group of people at a big press conference.
00:38:52
I think we're analyzing it that much in the moment.
00:38:54
Well, Mora, what you got?
00:38:56
All right.
00:38:56
Lyle.
00:38:58
Am I next?
00:38:59
You're next.
00:39:00
What's your trash take of the week?
00:39:01
Oh, oh, Jackson.
00:39:04
Jackson.
00:39:05
Oh, Jason.
00:39:06
Jackson Smith and Jigbo was on LaVesca Synalds podcast this weekend.
00:39:13
And they played this cut on Mump and Stacey yesterday.
00:39:15
So I'm just going to, I'm just going to play it for everybody here.
00:39:18
For those who don't remember, Jackson Smith and Jigbo had quite the viral quote a year ago at Super Bowl Week when he was asked about Shane Waldron.
00:39:25
And the dude says like, good luck to you all.
00:39:27
I mean, yeah.
00:39:29
And LaVesca, yeah, are we live right now?
00:39:32
LaVesca asks him on his new podcast about this.
00:39:36
And Jackson, well, he tried to clear it up.
00:39:39
You take the, oh, yeah, I mean, I would love to clear it up.
00:39:42
I mean, but I'm in Vegas, bro.
00:39:44
That's everything you really need to know.
00:39:48
But I'm in Vegas.
00:39:49
I'm doing a lot of appearances.
00:39:51
I'm doing a lot of interviews.
00:39:53
And I'm everywhere.
00:39:55
And I blame my people for not letting me know what I was walking into.
00:39:58
Like sad, but you're victim.
00:40:00
I walked into the little interview.
00:40:01
Like, oh, y'all boys, like from Chicago, like, I don't really know what was going on in interviews.
00:40:06
Like to be honest, like, I didn't know if it was live.
00:40:08
I didn't know it.
00:40:09
You know, it's just recording.
00:40:11
But my mind was every, my mind was in Vegas.
00:40:14
And I hadn't talked about the season on.
00:40:16
And they hit me with a shame watching.
00:40:18
I'm like, whoa.
00:40:19
I'm like, you know, my, my first year, bro, I didn't want to disrespect the man.
00:40:25
He don't.
00:40:26
There should be no disrespect towards him.
00:40:28
You know what I'm saying?
00:40:29
I mean, I really do think he was a good offense coordinator.
00:40:33
Okay.
00:40:34
So your take on this, Jackson, after trying to clear up the shame Waldron comments is one, I blame my people for not telling me I'm on an interview with Chicago sports media.
00:40:46
Like, all you have to do is look at their backdrop or ask who they are.
00:40:49
Two minutes before it's not a real curveball question.
00:40:52
No.
00:40:52
And then it was just like, why should people be excited about Shane Waldron?
00:40:56
And he couldn't just simply say, look, we had our ups and our downs in year one.
00:40:59
But I think bears fans are like him.
00:41:01
No, he seems to blame his team.
00:41:03
And then also say, well, I'm in Vegas, which I don't really know what that's.
00:41:07
Well, I think you know exactly what I know what it means, but I don't know why that he's saying that.
00:41:12
Yeah.
00:41:12
Yeah.
00:41:13
So that's a take.
00:41:14
It's a pretty strong start from both Brock and Lyle.
00:41:18
Mora, what do you have?
00:41:19
I was debating between a couple here because this one's pretty brief, but I think it's a pretty trash take.
00:41:26
Then I had a longer one from Micah Schoesbury, the Notre Dame basketball head coach, shaming people for not supporting their team more.
00:41:32
You know, even though they've lost four of their last five, but I'm going to go with this one.
00:41:35
It's Clinton Yates from ESPN Radio on Clinton and friends on the four nations face offers.
00:41:43
It's not unfamiliar to me the world of pucks at most levels.
00:41:48
But there's something about in 2025 watching grown men's on skates fight that feels so beyond bored.
00:41:57
Oh my gosh.
00:41:58
Then I didn't like it.
00:42:00
It turned me off.
00:42:01
Now I get it.
00:42:02
Watch it then.
00:42:03
What are you talking about?
00:42:05
Actually, don't get it.
00:42:05
You don't get it at all.
00:42:07
It's like it's yeah, it's part of tradition.
00:42:11
It's part of honestly, I wish it could happen in more sports because there's times where things are going your way in a hockey game and it's like just start throwing fist and things might change.
00:42:21
I know it's it's it's part of the draw of the game.
00:42:24
And if you don't get it, then don't watch it.
00:42:26
Don't enjoy it.
00:42:27
That's fine, but I don't call it Boris.
00:42:30
Come on.
00:42:30
Wow.
00:42:31
So you guys really gave me a lot to think about here.
00:42:34
This is, I think, the strongest group.
00:42:37
The trashiest group of takes I've heard all together.
00:42:41
Brock, I'm going to disqualify you on a technicality.
00:42:46
Sure.
00:42:46
That's not really a take.
00:42:50
Bruce isn't giving his opinion on anything.
00:42:52
He's just making a horrible, horrible prop comic joke in the exact wrong time.
00:42:58
So I mean, it's like a Gallagher impression.
00:43:02
I'm just going to say Bruce isn't a take.
00:43:04
And so it can't be the trash take.
00:43:06
Wow.
00:43:06
Okay.
00:43:07
How's that?
00:43:07
I'm not going to be a victim.
00:43:09
You're the trash master.
00:43:10
I am.
00:43:10
And you're out on a technicality.
00:43:12
So you've been you've you've actually been bored.
00:43:14
You've been dequeued.
00:43:16
You've been disqualified from competition today for so this, you know, for offering something that was not even a take.
00:43:24
What have Lyle?
00:43:26
I feel bad for Jackson.
00:43:29
I feel like he the poor guy.
00:43:31
He's such a victim here.
00:43:33
I can't believe you would offer this as a trash take.
00:43:37
This poor guy.
00:43:38
He's in Vegas.
00:43:38
He doesn't even know why he's there.
00:43:41
And now all of a sudden he's being forced to go to radio row and talk to all these people.
00:43:45
And then they're asking him questions about football that he might have to answer.
00:43:50
I don't know how you could not sympathize with this poor guy who was asked about his ex-coach and created a little bit of a storm.
00:43:58
And by I don't quite frankly, he should be ashamed of yourself or even putting this in trash takes.
00:44:02
He was nice enough to explain himself and what happened and offers a little bit more insight into that process.
00:44:09
And here you go and just try to rip him.
00:44:11
You should be ashamed quite frankly yourself.
00:44:13
This is your worst trash master effort by the way.
00:44:16
Yeah, you're not handling the heat of today very well.
00:44:18
Easy answer.
00:44:19
More is absolutely right.
00:44:21
This Clinton Yates take is to rash straight up garbage.
00:44:27
It's awful.
00:44:27
Not all sports need to be the same.
00:44:29
I'll say this over and over and over again.
00:44:31
Hockey doesn't need to be the same as baseball does need to be the same as basketball or football or cricket or anything else.
00:44:38
This ain't cricket.
00:44:39
Sports are different.
00:44:40
That's okay.
00:44:40
They don't all need to be the same.
00:44:42
This is part of this sports culture.
00:44:44
I'm sorry you felt it was borish.
00:44:47
Most people seem to be pretty darn interested in it.
00:44:50
And more is absolutely right.
00:44:51
It gives the gives the game energy and life.
00:44:55
And it's a wonderful way for hockey players to show their metal.
00:45:01
And there are generally rules and guidelines to it.
00:45:06
There's like a gentleman's code.
00:45:08
Yeah, that's shut up.
00:45:09
That's stupid.
00:45:10
That's just don't trash take easy win for more easy win.
00:45:15
Brock was disqualified and Lyle should be ashamed of himself quite frankly.
00:45:19
We'll be back tomorrow morning at 6 a.m.
00:45:24
Brock until then.
00:45:28
The hey barn see everybody.
00:45:40
Hey, your job.
00:45:41
Do you ever have to deal with a nose roller?
00:45:43
How about a snub pulley?
00:45:45
Well if you're installing a new conveyor belt system, dealing with the different components can sound like you're speaking a foreign language.
